Heartland's animals and Founder Dana Barre to present at the UW-Madison Conference on Child Sexual Abuse
Teddy & Opal visit with attendees at last year's conference.

Each year, UW-Madison hosts its Conference on Child Sexual Abuse for mental health and other professionals who work with abused children. On October 26th, Heartland's founder Dana Barre will present on our landmark program, Animal Hearts, to share how our team of rescued farm animals, licensed therapists, and animal care staff help heal children and families impacted by trauma. Heartland's animal "co-facilitators" will also be present to greet conference attendees throughout the day.
Heartland animal portraits now on display at the Madison Children's Museum

Eleven-year-old artist Finn Jackson (pictured here with Beau) has been painting the animals of Heartland for years now. After being displayed in several local businesses, Finn's works have landed him a spot at the Madison Children's Museum! His farm animal portraits will be on display until January. Finn donates proceeds from the sales of his art to Heartland, so head down to the museum to check out this amazing display! Read more...

Meet Trish & Chris Cain!
Trish and her husband Chris are dedicated Heartland supporters and ambassadors. Besides being Homestead Society members, Trish is a weekly animal care volunteer and you can find these two at nearly every Heartland event. They love spreading Heartland's mission and message to their friends, family and the community! (They also have a soft spot for our little goat, Baine. Who could blame them?!)  Learn more...

Animal Spotlight: Frosty the goat
Frosty is one of our older goats - we estimate that is he about 13 years old. Frosty came to HFS with his brother Jake, who sadly passed away this past year. Frosty was an amazing brother to Jake, especially near the end of his life when he didn't feel so well. Frosty has now buddied up with another one of our older goats, Butch. Read more about Frosty...
Interested in volunteering?
Animal care volunteers are still needed this fall on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays! If you can commit to three hours per week for at least six months, please visit our volunteer page for application  information. Animal care chores include providing food and fresh water, cleaning stalls and the barn, outdoor chores and lots of animal socialization time! The barn is not heated and candidates should be comfortable working in cold temperatures.
