Operation Fresh Start:
Your donation dollars hard at work

Operation Fresh Start (OFS) has been busy at the Heartland barn, installing new barn doors and a giant shelter for our pig pasture! The OFS crew has been a joy to have around the barn and is fitting in with our staff, volunteers and animals quite nicely.

A HUGE Heartland thank you to everyone who donated to our OFS Campaign and made the crew's work at our farm possible.

You can learn more about OFS and see them in action at Heartland in this news clip from Madison's News 3.

New garden plots keep Heartland

Local kids met Heartland's smallest "kid" - little Tyrion! - and fed him some fresh grass on a recent barn tour. Tyrion may be small in size, but he has a monster appetite!
Heartland's Barn in Bloom is June 28th

You are cordially invited to Heartland's Barn in Bloom summertime soiree on Sunday, June 28th from 3-7 PM!  Sip on a glass of fine wine or tip back a cold one from Ale Asylum, stroll through our "Art in the Barn" auction, and enjoy a divine dinner prepared by Chef Dave of Liliana's Restaurant.

Our Barn in Bloom begins at 3 PM with open barn tour time, followed by cocktails and dinner in the arena.  Music and mingle top the evening for this special benefit event for Heartland.

Update on ASPCA cockfighting rescue

HFS staff were on the scene Tuesday, June 2 to assist the ASPCA (American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) and local law enforcement with the seizure and care of nearly 1,200 birds from a cockfighting ring.  The seizure held special

significance for Heartland, who rescued 126 roosters and hens from the same

cockfighting ring back on January 31All hens and chicks are currently being held at a temporary shelter at the St. Croix county fairgrounds. Heartland is currently waiting on word when we will be able to place the birds into loving forever homes. Stay tuned for more information!

Animal Spotlight:  Sweet Pea the Hen
Tiny Sweet Pea came to Heartland a little over a year ago. She was spotted by a trucker at a gas station, but he was unable to catch her. At his next stop, he realized Sweet Pea had hitched a ride on his truck! Sweet Pea practically jumped into the arms of one our longtime volunteers, Diane, who happens to work at the driver's destination.  Sweet Pea must have known she was headed for a better place!
