PRINCIPAL'S CORNER

Hello Lakeview Families,

As you are aware, Lake Washington is a growing school district, in need of not only more classrooms and schools, but also more teachers. We are thrilled LWSD voters approved the 2016 bond measure. It is the first in a series of bonds and levies over the next fifteen years that propose to maintain the exact same property tax rate while addressing growth and aging facilities across the district.

Another important measure passed last year was the K-3 class size reduction and funding of all-day kindergarten for all students. Those changes are taking effect in LWSD next school year, which means more classes, more teachers, and lower average class size! This also means we need more high-quality, committed teachers than ever before.

At Lakeview we pride ourselves in being a training school, welcoming up-and-coming educators to volunteers, observe, and student teach at Lakeview. Ms. Laing, who we are thrilled to have hired for next year, was one of these up-and-coming educators we welcomed last fall, along with four work study students from Northwest University, three students who completed a September Methods experience at Lakeview last fall, and Ms. Rappuhn who student taught in Ms. Davidson's room along with Ms. Stringer who completed a counseling internship with Ms. Ben-Menachem.

With those successes under our belt, we are thrilled to have seven new Northwest U students signed up for September Methods next year, along with three student teachers for the spring time. Welcoming these students is a win-win as they have the opportunity to learn from some of education's finest teachers at Lakeview, and we get to connect with the energy and enthusiasm of new educators steeped in the latest research and best practice.

Lakeview is a special place, and we are thrilled to be a launching pad for the best and brightest teachers of tomorrow.

On-line School Supplies

We are pleased to announce that our school is once again participating in the School Tool Box online school supplies program.   Avoid the cost, time and inconvenience of back to school shopping this summer.  You will be getting some of the best prices out there due to the package discount we receive.  Also you can order beginning today and choose to delay the delivery of your items until the end of summer.  Another great thing about this program is that 10% of the total sales price will be given to the Lakeview PTSA.

It is as easy as:

1.       Go online to www.schooltoolbox.com and enter Lakeview Elementary Kirkland, WA in the search box.

2.       Select your grade level (s) and then select entire box or choose to customize box

3.       Click Add to Cart and then Checkout

4.       All of your items will be boxed together by child and shipped directly to your house.

Note: Orders must be placed by August 15, 2016 in order to ensure delivery before school begins on September 6th.

In addition, every order that we make to School Tool Box will provide a meal to a starving child through STB's One Box, One Meal, Two kids program in partnership with the Feed My Starving Children organization.

This program is offered as a convenience to you and is purely optional.  Watch for the informational flyer to be sent home soon.  If you have questions, please contact Alison Sheffer at sheffer07@comcast.net .
