PRINCIPAL'S CORNER

Dear Lakeview Families,

My goodness, it has been a scorcher this week! Looking back at historical temperatures from last year during the marathon (April-June), there was not a single school day that hit 80 or above until June 8th of last year. We had three this week! Why do I share this data? In coordination with the PTSA we have decided that for student safety we are going to cancel the marathon on school days that have a forecast of 80 or above because last year we had quite a few students sick in the health room from the heat last year on these 80+ degree days. So, if your student is anxious to run that marathon every day (and believe me, I know most of them are because I get flooded with questions of "Are we going to have the marathon today?!" when they see me before school) as a family you can check that forecast and if you see 80 or above you'll know the marathon is going to be cancelled that day. The goal is to make up missed days in June.

Also, with warmer weather we are seeing many more students biking to school, so I want to remind you of our bike policy. Students in the 4th and 5th grades may ride bicycles to school. Before riding to school, a permission form must be completed and signed by the student and by the parent and returned to the office (see form on page 15). Bicycle riders are required to wear a helmet and have a lock for their bikes. Bikes should be walked onto and off of the campus for pedestrian safety. Skateboards and roller blades are NOT a safe alternative transportation to and from school and are not allowed on campus. Students who are not in the 4th or 5th grade may not ride to/from school without a parent. Please note that the school assumes no liability for damage and/or theft of bicycles from school property.

You can find a copy of the bike permission form by clicking here

Thanks - Steve
