PRINCIPAL'S CORNER
Hello Lakeview Families,

As we shared in our Feb 26th Newsletter (click here), we are seeking mid-year parent feedback on our school goal to increase parent agreement that "students receive detailed information about the quality of the work they do." If you have not done so, please take a moment answer this single question survey by clicking here (http://goo.gl/forms/SpCwWHIaf2).

Also, Lakeview was selected, along with 400 other Washington public schools, to participate in a Washington State Department of Transportation (DOT) and Washington State Department of Health (DOH) sponsored Student Travel Survey.  The survey seeks to understand how students travel to and from school and possible barriers to walking, biking, or riding the bus. Please use these links for more information (English and Spanish).

Last, we want to thank you for your patience and cooperation as we "rebooted" our main parking lot procedures. We know it has required new routines and new habits which can be difficult to adopt in middle of already busy weekend mornings. Thank you. We are finding students are having a safer, more predictable drop-off and pick-up routine. We are working with the city and district around the bottleneck exiting onto 68th, but our main goal of increased supervision is being accomplished. I would invite you to revisit the district-approved walking and bus routes if you are in the habit of driving your student.

Thanks - Steve

Wanted: Health Room Volunteers

The office staff is looking for volunteers who can help cover shifts in the health room on Wednesdays 11:30-12:30 and Thursdays 12:30-2:30.  If you can do one hour, once a week, that would be greatly appreciated!  Training is provided.  If interested, please contact Chris Robison.

Wanted: PTSA Board Members for Next Year!
Our Lakeview PTSA has a large number of board positions opening up for next year.  We'd like to reach out far and wide to bring some new energy and ideas to the board for the upcoming school year. If you are interested in being on the PTSA board, or you'd like to make suggestions of people you think would make a good addition to the board, please contact the head of the nominating committee, Karee Oliver: kareeoliver@gmail.com.

The open board positions are:

- Treasurer
- Membership
- Fundraising
- Special Events
- Enrichment (Co-Chair)
- School Services

These jobs can all be done by an individual, or shared by co-chairs.

The PTSA board meets once a month, and is an important part of the Lakeview school community. They recruit volunteers and manage donations to support many of the Lakeview programs we all love. They provide an essential enrichment function for our kids that the State can no longer provide.

We hope to hear from you!

Attention Parents of Fifth Graders:
Kirkland Middle School WalkAbout

The Kirkland Middle School PTSA would like to formally invite the parents of incoming 6th graders to  "WalkAbout" at our school.  This is a great opportunity to get familiar with KiMS and to get a sneak peek into what being a middle schooler here is like.  WalkAbout is a volunteer program that provides a positive adult presence during our heaviest traffic times of the school day.   Your smile and guidance help kids feel safe, and discourages inappropriate behavior.  There are four short shifts: before school, A lunch, B lunch, and after school.  Sign up for as many as you like.  You can even grab a friend and work together!

Please make sure you are a LWSD approved volunteer, which is a quick process if you haven't done it already.  There is a 5 minute training presentation and an online sign-up on our PTSA Walkabout page.  Also, it's important to note in the "comments" section of the sign-up that you are a 5th grade parent, so we can be sure to give you a warm welcome our school!
