Hello Lakeview Families,
Thank you for joining us for January conferences! We were thrilled to have over 90% of our families attend a conference last week. It was wonderful hearing your student speaking for herself or himself, sharing progress towards their October goals, and showing you their completed work. We are anxious to partner with you to ensure that your student is learning every day. We began kindergarten registration this week and are excited as a district to be offering all-day kindergarten to all LWSD families at no cost to the family. If you have an incoming kindergartener and were unable to register on Thursday, our initial registration day, we invite you to come in between 10-3pm on school days to complete that registration process. For those of you with students who will be in grades 1-5 next year, we will be seeking confirmation that your student will be returning soon. Having accurate registrations and confirmations for the 2016-17 year as early as possible allows us to staff and plan for next year. If you are aware of families with students who will be registering at Lakeview for next year, please encourage them to come in and register. Thanks - Steve

The Future Of Our Schools
April 26th will mark one of the most important votes for education in our community. If you have not heard, The Lake Washington School District is one of the fastest-growing districts in the state. To accommodate all the students in our district, we need to build new schools. In Washington, the only process for this is voting for School Bonds. If you are interested in getting involved in this very important campaign for our children's future, please do any of the following things:
· Look for upcoming meetings at Lakeview Elementary and Kirkland Middle school to hear more about how you can get involved · Contact fellow Lakeview parents and Advocacy Co-Chairs Kevin Beto and Kristin Meier at lakptsaadvocacy@gmail.com to find out how you can help right now February 5th 12 - 1:30 pm advocacy / speaker training
February 10th campaign 12:30 - 1:30 pm meeting
February 24th campaign 12 - 1 pm meeting

ELPA21:
English Language Proficiency Test
for the 21st Century
Between February 2 and March 11, 2016 students who are enrolled in the English Language Learner (ELL) program will participate in the yearly ELL assessment. This year the assessment is moving from a paper and pencil assessment to a computer-based assessment. The test sections are: Reading, Writing, Listening, and Speaking. Each test section should take 20 to 30 minutes.
Your building's ELL teachers will proctor the test. Please contact your school's ELL teacher for more information about when the test will be given at your school. Lakeview's ELL teacher is Melissa Pitsch, and she can be contacted at mpitsch@lwsd.org.
The results of this required annual state test will help teachers and parents understand how ELL students are learning English and what other supports they need. Families will receive a score report in the mail after the test is completed.
Below you will find a link to additional information about this test.
Thanks
- Steve
