Dear Lakeview Families,
Thanksgiving is an important holiday: it invites us to reflect and remember the many things for which we have to be grateful. My wife and I recently finished watching the documentary On The Way To School, which follows four students (from Argentina, Kenya, Morocco, and India) on their journey to school. It shows brothers pulling and pushing their brother in a rusted-out wheelchair many miles, up hills and through rivers, to get a school for the day. It follows three girls as they summit the Atlas mountains to get to school for the week, where they will board before heading home for the weekend. Their dedication, and that of their families, was moving and made my wife and I very grateful for the relative ease with which our sons access our neighborhood, public school each day.
Now, there is true hardship in the Lakeview community. I certainly not attempting to disregard the genuine suffering and struggle too many in our community face each and every day. But we all have access to stellar public education, in safe, clean, local schools with caring, highly-skilled teachers. As parents and guardians, we only want what is best for our little ones, and I hope our schools can be one thing, despite the many challenges any one of us may be facing right now, that we can all be grateful to be a part of. Thank you for sharing your children with us every day, and have a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend! Thanks - Steve

Help Wanted
The PTSA is still looking for someone to take on the role of Advocacy Chair--in a nutshell you would be helping Lakeview deal with the issue of overcrowding that is expected to become a bigger problem in the next few years. If you would like to find out more about the Advocacy Chair position, please contact Tana or Ivana at lakptsapresident@gmail.com.
We are also need a couple more parent volunteers to help with this year's carnival event. The carnival is always a favorite here at Lakeview but we need some help in pulling it all together! We are still looking for two more parents - one to manage the team of volunteers and one to oversee the entire event.
We need to have our leads identified prior to the winter holiday break session so that there is enough time to set the date, manage all the planning and execution of the carnival. If we don't have the leads in place, we won't be able to have this event this year. If you are interested in one of these roles, please reach out to PTSA Special Events Chair Susie McDonald.

Winter Wishes 2015
Winter Wishes, a Lakeview tradition, allows the community to show they care by helping families share in the joy of gift giving and receiving during the holiday season. Marcee Ben-Menachem, our school counselor, confidentially facilitates gathering the wishes from our Winter Wishes families and delivering the gifts to them. Lakeview students, with their parents, then select one or more of the gifts and fulfill them for these families.
Beginning on Monday November 30th through Friday December 11th, gift tags will be available for pick up both before and after school in the front office.
Bring all items unwrapped to school office on or before December 14th. (They are donated to a local charity after this date). We will also have a collection area at the Lakeview Multi-cultural Night. Please return all gifts with their original Winter Wishes tag attached with the family number and gift number.
