Principal's Corner

Lakeview Families,

As we approach the end of the school year it is important to reflect on where we have been and plan for where we are going. A critical piece of data we use in our reflection and planning as a school and as a district is your feedback that comes through the LWSD Parent and Community Survey (http://www.k12insight.com/k/SsWYVTsVWVsPsPsP). We go through this data with a fine-toothed comb every fall at an administrative level, with our building leadership team, and as a staff. Unfortunately we typically receive only a few dozen responses, which represents a small fraction of the over 400 Lakeview families, let alone the larger Lakeview community. Your feedback is very important to us: it will be reviewed, reflected on, and used in our planning.

Please feel free to forward the link to friends and neighbors (http://www.k12insight.com/k/SsWYVTsVWVsPsPsP). We would also like to hear from community members who do not have students in our schools. The survey will take approximately 10-15 minutes. School-wide results for selected questions will be published as part of our school's annual report, which will be distributed to all parents next fall.

Also, as the year winds down, there is a flurry of exciting activities through the end of the school year as you can see in the "Upcoming Events" sidebar:

Field Day June 4th

Egg Drop June 5th 11:55-1:25pm

Kindergarten Choir Concert June 4th 6pm

Fifth Grade Promotion June 15th 9:00-11:00am

These activities are very important community-building events and we hope to see you there!

Last, there is one important event for next year we want to get on your calendars now: Thursday, August 27th will be both our Meet N' Greet (2:15-3:00pm) and our Curriculum night (6:00-8:00pm). During the Meet N' Greet you and your student will learn which classroom they have been assigned to and get to meet your student's teacher for the first time. Curriculum Night is an opportunity for parents to meet teachers and better understand the classroom curriculum and plans for the year. Please mark this important date, Thursday, August 27th, on your calendars now.

Thanks,

Steve

Yearbook Co-Chair Needed 2015-16 School Year!

The parent who has coordinated production of the Lakeview Yearbook for the past 4 years is in need of a few volunteers beginning in September. Individuals must be interested in learning the ropes during her last year and taking over this project moving forward. Shared tasks include recruiting photography volunteers, gathering photos from classroom photographers (through online site), laying out pages, coordinating production with the yearbook company, marketing yearbook sales, distributing and collecting order forms, possibly photographing school events, and more. All layout is done online from your home computer. Majority of work occurs between February and April. Hours dependent on numbers of classrooms and number of volunteers willing to learn the program. To find out more email Jenny Carlson at fiveftjen@gmail.com. (Inquiry does not imply a commitment.)

Online School Supply Orders are Back

Our online school supplies program is back.

We are pleased to announce that our school is once again participating in the School Tool Box online school supplies program. Avoid the cost, time, and inconvenience of back to school shopping. You will be getting some of the best prices out there due to the package discount we received.  Another great thing about this program is that 10% of the total sales price will be given to the Lakeview PTSA.

It is as easy as:

1.       Go online to schooltoolbox.com and enter Lakeview Elementary Kirkland, WA in search box

2.       Select your grade level(s) and then select entire box or choose to customize box

3.       Click Add to Cart and then Checkout

4.       All of your items will be boxed together by child and shipped directly to your home!

NOTE:   You can order now and choose to delay the delivery of your items until the end of summer.  Orders must be placed by August 17, 2015 in order to ensure delivery before school begins on September 1st.

In addition, every order that we make to School Tool Box will provide a meal to a starving child through STB's One Box, One Meal, Two Kids program in partnership with the Feed My Starving Children organization.

This program is offered as a convenience to you and is purely optional. Watch for the informational flyer to be sent home soon.  If you have questions, please contact Alison Sheffer at lakptsafundraising@gmail.com.

Thank you for supporting your PTSA.

Bike To School Update

The bike racks were overflowing with bikes on Bike 2 School Day! We counted 67 bikes parked outside of the school. Special thanks to Mr. Coulter for leading the bike train on the Cross Kirkland Corridor. Way to go, Lakeview!

Cascade Bicycle Club would like to remind students that they can fill out calendars so that they can earn prizes, even if they only rode that one day.
Track your minutes on a Bike 2 School Challenge Calendar and submit it by email to lakptsabike2school@gmail.com or to your classroom teacher by Monday, June 1, 2015 (Note that you may record miles for any bike rides you've taken in May)
