Principal's Corner

Lakeview Families,

The end of the school year is quickly approaching, and with it comes a flurry of activity. Yesterday our 3rd and 4th graders visited Benaroya Hall to enjoy a symphony performance thanks to the generous support of the Lakeview PTSA. Tonight we will have an incredible Carnival from 6:30-8:30pm run by the PTSA and I would encourage every family to attend who is able, it will be a wonderful community-building event.

This week we were delighted to announce to the staff that our own Ms. Levinson of 3rd grade has been selected as a LWSD administrative intern. This means that she will continue teaching this school year and next school year as usual, but will increasingly be assisting with the administrative work of Lakeview. Ms. Levinson has already done incredible work on behalf of the school and will continue to shine as she increasingly steps into the administrative role.

As you know, the opportunity for me to begin at Lakeview mid-year required both myself and the team at Eastlake High School, where I came from, to wear multiple hats as we finished out the school year. With my departure from Eastlake, the Eastlake administrative team absorbed most of my tasks and responsibilities at Eastlake, but there are two key items that are not easily transferred midyear: state testing and the evaluation of teachers and staff under my umbrella at Eastlake. Likewise, Ms. Westra will be wrapping up her evaluative work with the Lakeview staff.

So next week, and part of the following week, Ms. Westra will return to Lakeview, and with the help of Ms. Levinson will keep the good work at Lakeview moving along as I return to Eastlake for a few days to run state testing and wrap up my work with my Eastlake umbrella of teachers.

Thanks,

Steve Thatcher

KiMS Parent Coffee-Incoming Parents Invited

Dear 5th Grade Parents,

I know this moment can be bittersweet, when your child leaves elementary school.  Please know they, and you, will be very welcome at Kirkland Middle School. The KiMS PTSA invites you to our last monthly parent coffee on Tuesday, May 19th from 9:00 - 10:30. These coffees are informal opportunities to meet other parents, KiMS staff, and parent educators.  You can drop-in anytime and leave when you need to. We're pleased to provide another chance for you to meet and talk to Principal McCarson.  She will spend about an hour with us, saying a few words and answering questions.  The location will either be in the lunchroom or the library; there will be signs directing you on where to go. We hope to meet many of you on May 19th!  Email me at President KMSPTSA@gmail.com with any questions.

Debbie Ohman, KiMS PTSA President
