Principal's Corner

Lakeview Families,

The Science Fair was a huge success last night! Congratulations to all of the students who experimented and presented, and thank you to our staff and PTSA for organizing this incredible opportunity for our students.

The Marathon continues during recess with our students collectively logging hundreds of miles every day. I had the opportunity to put on my running shoes on Wednesday and run a few laps myself. I found myself surrounded by your energetic, cheerful students enjoying the opportunity to run at recess.

As we enter May, we begin to plan classroom assignments for next year. Our goal to build successful, diverse, and dynamic class for your student, and to do that we need some data. Incoming kindergarten parents will receive an invitation next week to sign up for an appointment for our May incoming kindergarten screening. Beginning next week, families of returning students can pick up a pink parent placement feedback form on the school website or in the main office. Please have your student return the form to his/her teacher by Friday, May 8th. We use your feedback to inform our decision about where to place your student next year. Remember, the purpose of these forms is not to request a specific teacher.

Consider these questions in preparation for completing the student placement feedback form:

1) What is the learning style of your student? What are instructional techniques that have been successful?

2) What is your child's temperament? Is your child active? Adaptable? Shy? Friendly?

3)    Does your student have any health concerns of which we are not yet aware?

4)    Are there any family issues or changes that we may not know?

While some of this information may not directly impact placement, now is a good time to update us about anything that might be affecting your child's education.

Thanks,

Steve Thatcher

Lakeview Carnival May 15-Volunteers Needed!

The Lakeview Carnival is Friday 5/15, 630-830pm. However, we need volunteers for the event! Thank you to those who have signed up to donate items.

Planning for the Lakeview Carnival is underway, and many volunteers are needed.  From selling tickets to handing out pizza, from running games to cleaning up after the fun, a great Carnival depends on a great set of volunteers. We invite you to sign up to volunteer with your child as a way to experience community service together! If your middle or high school student needs volunteer hours this is a great way to help out!
