Principal's Corner

Lakeview Families,

One of the things I love most about my job is that I have a varied job description that keeps me on my toes. I've always said, though, that of all the hats I wear, the most important one above all else is student safety. So I was excited when PTSA wanted to plan our first ever safety week. Since it was our first time, we weren't exactly how it would go or what kind of response we would get.

I am thrilled to report that it was a huge success! We had scores of parent volunteers helping to education drivers about parking lot safety. Students were part of the process and had a great time as well. What we learned is that our parents are generally happy to follow procedures but aren't always aware of those procedures and expectations.

Please help us continue to maintain safety by following the direction of staff in the parking lot, driving at safe speeds, having your student exit curbside, and keep their backpacks close.

Spring Enrichment Class Enrollment Coming Soon!

Enrichment Classes: Spring Session, April 13 - June 12, 2015

The spring enrichment schedule will be published on or before Thursday, 3/12. The schedule will be sent home in student folders and will also be available online at http://lakeviewptsa.org.

Important reminders:

VICs chaperone every week for a class for the entire session and they are offered FREE enrollment for that class for one child. (requirements: PTSA member and approved LWSD volunteer)
Scholarship opportunities are available and will be selected by lottery.
Online enrollment period: Saturday, March 21 (9 am) - Tuesday, March 31 (midnight). In order to ensure accurate rosters and student safety, LATE ENROLLMENTS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.

Lakeview Marathon News!

The 2015 Lakeview Marathon will begin on Monday, 4/20. Are you interested in volunteering to help with this fun event? We'd like to form a marathon committee to help with the following: punch card preparation, spreadsheet updates, bulletin board design, field set-up and onsite supervision, coordination of daily volunteers. If you'd like more information or would like to volunteer, please email lakptsamarathon@gmail.com. We hope that you'll join us!

PTSA Board Nominations Coming-Are You In?

It's that time of year to begin nominating next year's PTSA Board. Some of our board members including President and Vice President as well as numerous committee chairs (Special Events, After School Programs) and coordinators are stepping down as their terms have been served--and their kids are moving on! We Need You! Think about the activities, after school activities, academic programs and assemblies that the PTSA provides to our school. There is always a person or persons behind all of these activities! Consider joining the board and helping us to continue great works at Lakeview Elementary! Arabian Nights Lakeview Play 3/19-3/20

Come see Arabian Nights with Lakeview's talented 4th & 5th graders! There will be two performances: Thursday, March 19 & Friday, March 20 2015 @ 7:00pm, at the Lake Washington High School Performing Arts Center.

There are two easy ways to buy tickets: Buy tickets early and save!

Visit the PTSA website's Arabian Nights information page and use the pre-order ticket form here: Arabian Nights Pre-Order Ticket Form
Send the form and your payment via your child's teacher in an envelope marked PTSA-Arabian Nights. Make check to Lakeview PTSA. You will receive email confirmation of your order. ($7 per ticket). Final day Final day to send in your form is March 17th. We will not be distributing physical tickets this year. Your name will be on the list at the door (all groups will be listed under the name of the person who placed the order).
Buy at the door on performance nights at LWHS. ($10 per ticket)

Skate King! Roll on over Thursday 3/5 6pm!

LAKEVIEW SKATE KING PARTY!

WHERE: Bellevue Skate King
2301 140th N.E.

WHEN: Thursday, March 5
6:00-8:00 p.m.

WHY: To have a great time and support 5th grade field trips

WHO: Lakeview kids and their families only

COST: $8.00 cash or check made out to Lakeview- pay at the door (no credit cards accepted). This includes the cost of regular skates, but not roller blade rentals.

Skate King has private functions following ours; your child must be taken home at 8:00 p.m. Please respect Skate King's policies including: no outside food or beverages on the premises. Protective gear is recommended. Skate King has helmets, wrist guards and knee pads available for rent, or bring your own.

NO PERMISSION SLIP=NO ENTRY=NO SKATING

Please sign and bring permission slip with you to Skate King. Pay upon entering, no prepayments sent in to school. Extra slips will be available at the entrance, but a parent must sign for his/her child or no entrance. An adult must stay with your child during the entire event.

Lake Washington HS Play Grease 3/5-7, 3/13-14

5th Grade Parents: Join Kirkland MS PTSA!

In a blink of an eye, your child will be graduating from elementary school and entering 6th grade. Volunteering for a Board or Committee position on the Kirkland Middle School's PTSA offers a great way to be involved in your child's school experience. You'll keep in touch with existing friends, meet new friends and help out the school all at the same time!
