Principal's Corner
Lakeview Families,
It is officially November and, amazingly, the holiday season is upon us. The holidays are a time when students often miss more school than the rest of the year so I want to talk about attendance.
As you know, our teachers pack each day full of important instruction and content. They begin teaching the moment the bell rings and don't stop until it's time to pack up for the day. Thus, it's crucial that your student be present at and on time for school.
Certainly there are exceptions to this. If your child has a fever, is contagious, or has a severe illness, please keep him/her home. However, car problems, oversleeping, or babysitting, are not permissible reasons to keep your student home.
I urge you to schedule family celebrations, vacations, and holiday events during scheduled school breaks. Please also do your best to schedule appointments for your child outside of the school day.
If tardies are an issue for your family, try teaching your student to set an alarm. Leaving the TV off in the morning can also expedite your morning routine.
If your student is showing signs of school anxiety and can't really articulate a reason for not wanting to come, please contact his/her teacher or our counselor immediately.
Lastly, try to create a restful environment for your student. Relaxing before bed by reading rather than something stimulating like TV, video games, or time online will help your student to fall asleep quickly. Elementary students need a minimum of eight hours of sleep a night. Some require as many as twelve.
Thanks for making sure your child is in school learning, especially during this busy holiday season. Remember, every day counts!
Have a wonderful weekend!

Spotlight on Lakeview! Front Office Team
Kim Brandon, Student Secretary: Hi! I am Kim Brandon and am the Student Secretary at Lakeview. I have worked as a school secretary for the past 20 plus years. I enjoy working with the kiddos at Lakeview on a daily basis not to mention the wonderful staff! I am from Atlanta, GA and my husband of 32 years is from Scottsboro, AL (Roll Tide). We met in college in Alabama and he has been employed with UPS since which is what brought us to the Seattle area. My passion is very simple...it is my 2 sons, Joshua and Lee. Joshua is 29 years old, married to a nurse and is presently in his last few months of finishing his doctorate at University of GA and teaching band at a nearby school. Lee is 26 years old and residing in the Seattle area. He is a manager in one of the local area casinos. I enjoy every minute I can spend with these 2 young men...they are precious! My second passion is the beach and that is where I spend the majority of my time away from school with family and friends.
Mandi McCheseney, Office Manager: Hi I am Mandi McChesney and I am the Office Manager at Lakeview. I love working with the staff and students at Lakeview. I have 2 children, one at LWHS and another at RHMS. I have been married to my wonderful Husband for 18 years. We moved 17 years ago from New Mexico and we are still getting used to the rain. In my spare time I love to watch my daughter play soccer and my son play tennis. We love to go on family hikes with my dog named Bailey who is a bernadoodle, who keeps us on our toes.
Lakeview Spotlight is a new section dedicated to learning more about our teachers, staff and school. We are leading up to Lakeview's 60th birthday in 2015!
