Lakeview Families,

It's that time of year where we start to think about transitioning to next year. With that comes the task of student placement. As you know, we send home parent input forms for you to fill out. We use this form to help inform our decision about where to place your student next year. Remember, the purpose of these forms is not to request a specific teacher.

In preparation for these forms, I'd like to have you start considering the answers to a few questions.

1)     What is the learning style of your student? What are instructional techniques that have been successful?

2)     What is your child's temperament? Is your child active? Adaptable? Shy? Friendly?

3)     Does your student have any health concerns of which we are not yet aware?

4)     Are there any family issues or changes that we may not know?

While some of this information may not directly impact placement, now is a good time to update us about anything that might be affecting your child's education.

Thanks for considering these questions in advance.

Rebekah

Help LWHS Win A Grant!
Here is an opportunity to support a curent LWHS win a $50,000 technology grant from Google. LWHS freshman Renaise Kim has been selected as the Washington state representative for the Google 4 Doodle contest. Each year, Google offers students in grades K-12 an opportunity to design like a "Googler." Artists must create a design around the year's theme. This year, the theme was "If I could invent one thing to make the world a better place..." Renaise titled her piece, "Brighter World through Binoculars," stating that: "I invented magical binoculars that would allow people to see the world more optimistically and be grateful for living in a bright and beautiful world. Wearing these binoculars would also enhance their attitude, resulting in happier and healthier lives and relationships with others."

As a state winner, Renaise will get to travel to Mountain View, Calif. at the end of May with the other 50 finalists. They will get to meet the Google team, and the national winner will be revealed at a special event. If Renaise were to win the national prize, she would win a $30,000 college scholarship, her design would appear on the Google homepage for a day, and her school (LWHS) would win a $50,000 tech grant from Google.

'Zaw May Days School Fundraising
During the month of May, every time you order from the Kirkland 'Zaw on a Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday and mention Lakeview Elementary, 'Zaw will give $5 back to our school. The school that raises the most funds will win a pizza party for our teachers and staff.
Classroom Donations
Amazon Teacher Wish Lists were established last year to allow parents to purchase specific items that will directly benefit the classroom learning environment. If you are interested in seeing what items your teacher needs, please go to the Lakeview PTSA website (www.lakeviewptsa.org) and click on the Teacher Wishlists from the Fundraising tab to access instructions for viewing and purchasing from these lists.
Lakeview PTSA Facebook Page
We want to make sure everyone can easily find all the information they need about the many things the PTSA does at Lakeview. We created a Facebook page as an additional way to share information. Find out about enrichment classes, family fun nights, volunteer opportunities, and much more! Be sure to "like" the Lakeview PTSA page and follow our news.
