Principal's Corner Hello Lakeview Families!Happy first week of school! It was so fun to see all of our Leopards working hard in class on their first day! Our little ones were all very brave and faced this new experience head on. All around, it was a great first day. Our students already have learned a lot, made new friends, settled into a new routine, and have played hard, too. As you know, a lot of work goes in to making the first day run smoothly. I'd like to thank our teachers and staff for putting in a lot of long days over the summer, last week, and even over the holiday weekend. We have a staff who is dedicated to your students and I feel lucky to work with them. Thank you also to our wonderful PTSA who helped assemble the back to school packets, a well-attended parent coffee this morning, and what I know will be a great back to school BBQ. Today was a wonderful day for me. Watching streams of students line up, connect with old friends, meet their teachers, and flood our halls was an injection of energy that we have all been waiting for. Looking forward to spending the year with them. Sincerely, Rebekah Westra

What's in the Back to School Packet?
Are you feeling overwhelmed with all the "stuff" coming home with your child? You're not alone! To help you sort through the PTSA Forms in your blue back to school packet, here's a guide to what's what:
1) A letter from Megan Gardner, our PTSA President, and Jenni Heuberger, our PTSA Vice President, letting you know what the PTSA is all about.
2) A flyer highlighting just some of the programs and activities that the PTSA provides and how you can participate by: Volunteering, Joining, Contributing and Communicating!
3) The Lakeview PTSA Directory, Membership & Donation Form (Yellow). Use this form to provide contact information which will be included in the Student Directory. If you choose to make a donation, and/or join the PTSA, indicate the amount and include a check.
4) Lakeview PTSA Volunteer Opportunities. This flyer lists the many volunteer positions needed to provide all the great PTSA programs we have at our school.
5) Lakeview PTSA Volunteer Form (Blue). Use this form to let us know how you might be willing to volunteer. Feel free to ask a relative or neighbor to fill one out too! All volunteers must apply and be approved by the Lake Washington School District. For more information on the approval or process go to: http://www.lwsd.org/For-Community/Volunteers/Pages/Application-Process.aspx.
6) Important Dates and Learning Opportunities Outside the Classroom (Green). A handy reference to use throughout the year.
Forms are due back Friday, September 13th. If you misplaced a form or need another copy, use this link to download one from our website: http://lakeviewptsa.org/2013/08/30/back-to-school-packet-links/

Walk to School Week Begins 9/16
Walk to School Week is Sept 16-20. Walking and biking to school helps kids concentrate during the day, reduces traffic congestion near the school, is great exercise, and helps the environment! If your child walks or bikes to school the week of 9/16, check in at the tables by the front entrance to the school. We'll have something fun for the kids each day, and at the end of the week, the class with the most walkers will win a menchies party! BUS RIDERS: If parents are willing to drive their kids part way, they can park at least 3 blocks from school, and walk with their kids so they too can participate! WALKING WEDNESDAYS: Although everyone is encouraged to continue walking to school on Wednesdays (or every day, all year!), there won't be prizes this year for our Wednesday Walkers. Instead, come up with your own creative ideas to encourage people in your neighborhood to continue the Walking Wednesday tradition!
