Volunteer Tea and Thanks

As the school year comes to a close, there are many people who deserve our thanks. We have such a wonderful community here at Lakeview, with each person contributing in his or her own way to the education and happiness of our children. The Lakeview Teachers and Staff hosted a Volunteer Tea on Monday, 6/3 to honor the many parent volunteers who come in to help with reading, art, library, marathon, and a host of other activities that enrich our school.

At that event, the PTSA gave special recognition to Jenna Todd, who was nominated by parents and teachers to receive the Golden Acorn Award. Each year, this award is given to one very special volunteer who has given outstanding service to ALL children in the Lakeview community. This past year, Jenna has been one of the leaders of our Art Program, volunteering not only in her own child's classroom, but others, as well. She has also volunteered countless hours to help with the Band-aid Brigade and the Marathon, among other activities. She is a shining example of what can be done when you put your heart and soul into something. If you have time, check out the plaque in the hallway outside the front office to see the names of current and past recipients.

The PTSA also gave special thanks to Shawna Rothaus, who will be leaving Lakeview to be Associate Principal at Redmond Middle School. Mrs. Rothaus has been a passionate advocate for the Lakeview staff and enthusiastic champion for our children. We will have fond memories of her atop the firehouse ladder launching student-made contraptions at the Egg Drop and dressing up as a Witch to read stories to our children on Halloween. We wish her the best in her next endeavor.

This year we were also fortunate to have two teachers volunteer their time to attend PTSA board meetings. Meighan Lailey and Stephanie Llanes provided valuable insights and teacher perspectives on PTSA funding and volunteer issues. The PTSA Board presented them with a token of our appreciation for their contributions throughout the year.

Last, but not least, all of us gave a round of applause and thanks to Marypat Meuli who has been our PTSA President for the past two years, and Vice President the prior year. She has provided a calm voice of reason, kept us focused and on task when necessary, and done it all while working full-time at Microsoft!
