Auction Update
Thank you to all of the parents, volunteers, and Lakeview staff who attended the "Leaping Our Leopards Into the Future" Auction this past Saturday night. It was a fun night out! The generosity expressed raised monies to benefit the Lakeview PTSA. If you did not get the chance and are still wishing to donate, your donations are welcome and appreciated. Please send a check in an envelope marked PTSA Auction/Donation. All donations are tax deductible under the law. Go Leopards!

Staff Appreciation Week: Thank You's

Thank you to everyone who helped make Staff Appreciation Week wonderful for our Lakeview staff. Many emails and words from the staff were shared. Everyone felt special during this week. A special thank you to Lucia restaurant for donating many dishes to our staff appreciation luncheon last Friday. Please let me know if you would like to be part of a Staff Appreciation Committee for the 2013-2014 school year. Email Jenelle Mullet at jenellemullet@yahoo.com if you are interested.
Calling All Student Musicians
Do you have a student musician who attends Lakeview or Kirkland Middle School?  We would love to have them play at the Art Walk on Friday, 5/31 from 6-8pm in the gym. Students can play a solo piece, or as part of an ensemble. Please contact Susie Arnold at bignorma@hotmail.com.
Attention Lakeview Parents
You are invited to our next PTSA general meeting in the school library at 6:30pm Thursday, 6/13. One of our agenda items is to ask you to vote on proposed revisions to our PTSA Standing Rules. We are making a few changes to better reflect the reality of how our PTSA works. Every PTA/PTSA has standing rules; our document on how our Lakeview PTSA operates and makes decisions, consistent with the uniform bylaws of the Washington State PTA, is available here. Before this meeting, please review the draft of proposed changes available here. If you have any questions, contact our PTSA President, Marypat Meuli, at lakptsapresident@gmail.com.

Also taking place on Thursday, 6/13 is the Kindergarten Concert which will be held in the gym from 6-6:20pm followed by a presentation from the Lakeview staff and Zeno. This is an opportunity for parents to learn about ways to support their child's learning over the summer through reading, math games and on-line tools. The summer enrichment workshop will take place after the PTSA General Meeting.
WANTED: PTSA Special Events Chair
Everyone enjoys the annual Lakeview community events. Ask your child what he/she thinks of Family Dance Night? The Carnival? The PTSA is seeking a volunteer to accept the popular position of Special Events Chair for 2013 -2014. We are looking for someone to oversee the events and coordinate the volunteers. You are not required to run each event. However, it is a great opportunity to get to know the Lakeview community and be a part of the PTSA board. Without having someone to chair this position, these fun family events will not take place. If you would like to learn more about this opportunity, please contact Megan Gardner lakptsavicepresident@gmail.com.
Upcoming Parent Education Program
The Lake Washington PTSA Council with support from Lake Washington School District sponsors many parent education programs.  "Youth Cyber Safety and the Risks of Social Media - What Every Family Needs to Know" presented by attorney and cyber-safety expert Charles Leitch. With more affordable smart phones and the growth of social media like Facebook and Twitter, everyone is connected. Yes, it is exciting, but how do you protect your children when they participate? Not just from predators but from bad decisions that can impact their lives for years to come? How do you even talk to them about it, let alone understand it?This is a youth cyber-safety program for parents that will help answer those questions and more. The same program will be repeated at elementary schools around Lake Washington School District to give more parents an opportunity to attend. Admission is free.

The remaining presentations will be held on the following dates/times:
Christa McAuliffe Elementary (Sammamish) - Thursday, 5/23 from 7-9pm
Ben Franklin Elementary (Kirkland) - Thursday, 5/30 from 7-9pm

For more information on this parent education program go to the LWSD website.
