After School Enrichment Drama Class Addition
Due to the popularity of the Studio East Drama Class, a K-1st grade class has been added: Once Upon a Time, Jump into the story! Students will explore classic fairy and folk tales through dramatic play and crafts. Each week we will read a different book, acting it out and discovering new ways to tell the story. We'll change characters if it suits us, and question why the story ends the way it does. Towards the end of the session, we'll choose our favorite story to perform for family and friends on the final day of class.
Please contact Karee Oliver (KareeOliver@gmail.com) if you would like to enroll your student, in this or one of the other Drama classes. Drama classes start Tuesday, 4/23.

Note: There is still space in both the Art and Chess classes!
Purchase Auction Tickets by Monday, 4/22!
Please return your auction tickets order form by this Monday! Cost is $65/pp which covers drinks and a buffet dinner. Dancing to follow the auction. We have items for every whim and wonderful games and raffles to play--Let's support the PTSA and come! Ticket flyers are coming home in kid mail this week or can be downloaded here.

Thank You Egg Drop Volunteers

Lakeview's Egg Drop Event was a resounding success this year with 112 egg contraptions submitted and no rain to spoil the event! Many thanks to Mary Pund, Lorien Stott, Christina Limena, Karee Oliver, Nicky Chapman, Agustina Reisman, Jackie McKenna, and Laura James for their help collecting in the morning and recording results over the three lunch recesses as well as crowd control. And most of all, much gratitude to the Kirkland Fire Department and the three firefighters who made the whole event so exciting! See you all next year!- Dana Laursen

Wanted: Enrichment Chair. The Lakeview PTSA Needs You!

For the past few years, Karee Oliver has been our Education Enrichment Chair on the PTSA Board. She has devoted countless hours to organizing and shepherding one of the most fulsome before and after school enrichment programs in the area. Because of Karee, our children have had the opportunity to pursue a wide variety of extra-curricular interests in areas such as Art, Chess, Legos, Math, Drama, Spanish and Science. Next year, Karee will be retiring from her role as Education Enrichment Chair, but is not leaving the Board. She will be taking on the School Services Chair position, which is responsible for Hearing and Vision Screening, School Pictures and Emergency Preparedness. We should all take our hats off to Karee for the wonderful work she has done!

Unfortunately, that leaves us in desperate need of someone to take the lead role on the Enrichment Team as Enrichment Chair for next year. Could it be you? If we don't find someone, we are in jeopardy of losing our before and after school programs. Two members of the Enrichment Team are planning to continue in the roles of Enrichment General Assistant and Registration Intake. Please consider reaching out to Karee or Megan Gardner, our incoming President for 2013-2014, for details.

Thank You Lakeview Science Fair Volunteers
A sincere thank you goes out to all of our wonderful volunteers who helped with the science fair and to teachers and staff who supported and helped out with the science fair this year. Congratulations to all the students who participated in the Lakeview Science Fair. It was so much fun to see all the different science experiments and cool exhibits.

Upcoming Parent Education Program
The Lake Washington PTSA Council with support from Lake Washington School District sponsors many parent education programs.  "Youth Cyber Safety and the Risks of Social Media - What Every Family Needs to Know" presented by attorney and cyber-safety expert Charles Leitch. With more affordable smart phones and the growth of social media like Facebook and Twitter, everyone is connected. Yes, it is exciting, but how do you protect your children when they participate? Not just from predators but from bad decisions that can impact their lives for years to come? How do you even talk to them about it, let alone understand it?This is a youth cyber-safety program for parents that will help answer those questions and more. The same program will be repeated at elementary schools around Lake Washington School District to give more parents an opportunity to attend. Admission is free.

The presentations will be held on the following dates/times:
Rosa Parks Elementary (Redmond) - Thursday, 5/16 from 7-9pm
Christa McAuliffe Elementary (Sammamish) - Thursday, 5/23 from 7-9pm
