Bandaid Brigade Seeks New Volunteers!
The Bandaid Brigade is a volunteer group of parents who help the office staff cover the Lakeview Health Room during lunch recess (11:45am to 1:45pm). A one hour training from a school district nurse is provided. Time commitment varies: come in once or twice a month, once a week, whatever works with your schedule. While not the most glamorous of volunteer gigs, the comfort you provide could be priceless to a student.

Walking Wednesdays
Despite the rainy, cold weather, we had almost as many kids walking and biking to school in December and January as we did in previous months. 87 kids walked or biked at least 6 out of the 7 Wednesdays. Those kids all received a free slurpee from 7-11. Way to go!
To encourage more people to walk to school, the February Walking Wednesday prize will be a yellow Lakeview Leopard umbrella for any kids who walk or bike to school at least 3 out of 4 Wednesdays. Walking or biking to school improves your child's health and their attention span, it helps reduce traffic near the school, and it's a great chance to talk to your kids and meet up with other families walking to school. Give it a try and win a prize!

Accelerated Reader Program: Student Email Updates
Did you know that you can receive an email when your student takes an Accelerated Reader test? The emails will tell you what book your student read and how they performed on the accompanying test. To receive emails, go to the Renaissance Home Connect website at https://hosted207.renlearn.com/294615/HomeConnect/Login.aspx. You will need your student's login name and password. Your student should know this information. If not, contact the student's teacher. Once you are logged in, click on "Email Setup" (located in the upper right-hand corner of the screen) and follow the instructions. You can also view all the tests for all the books your student read this school year as well as their annual progress. A note on user name and passwords: Typically the user name is the first letter of the student's first name and the first four letters of their surname. The password is the first letter of their first name and the first letter of their surname. For example, the user name and password for "Emily Black" would be user name = eblac and password = eb.

Help Kirkland Greenways Make Roads Safer
Calling all Eastside riders and residents! Come help kick start the Greenways movement on the Eastside! On Wednesday, 2/20, from 6:30-7:30pm at the Kirkland Fire Station #22, you will have the chance to learn what greenways are and mark up maps of Kirkland and the rest of the Eastside with your neighborhood destinations, existing safe walking and biking routes, and dangerous conflict areas. Then help us work with the City of Kirkland and the other Eastside cities to turn these proposed greenways into reality. If you care about safe roads for people on foot or bike, you need to attend this meeting and start getting your hands dirty (with highlighters that is). Imagine your neighborhood, knitted together with quiet residential streets where children and adults safely walk, ride bicycles, play and run. Imagine these streets are close to where you live and connect you to the places you want to go - your school, the grocery store, your favorite coffee shop, etc. Imagine traveling along a whole network of these streets across the entire Eastside designed first for children and adults who are walking and biking. Places where people are alert when they drive and open their car doors carefully after they park.
Date/Time: Wednesday, 2/20, from 6:30 - 7:30pm
