Lincoln Police Warn of Telephone Scam
ATTENTION RESIDENTS

The Lincoln Police Department wishes to warn citizens of a troubling scam during this tax season.

The Lincoln Police Department received a report from a citizen stating they had been contacted by a person who said they were with the Lincoln Police Department.  The caller told the citizen they owed back taxes and needed to pay them immediately or they would cancel their driver's license, business license, place liens on their house and vehicles, and arrest them.

The Lincoln Police Department did not make this phone call and the caller was fraudulently impersonating a representative of the department.  The caller used the caller ID phone number 916-645-4040, the phone number for the Lincoln Police Department.

The Lincoln Police Department does not make phone calls of this nature.  If you receive any phone calls from the IRS or a Law Enforcement agency that appear suspicious, we encourage you to contact the specific agency to confirm the validity of the phone call prior to releasing any information to the caller.  If you receive any calls from someone impersonating the Lincoln Police Department, please contact the Lincoln Police Department at 916-645-4040.

Wet Weather System on The Way - Are you Prepared?

A heavy storm is expected to hit the area this Thursday evening through Monday morning. The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for Placer County from Friday morning through Monday morning, and a high-wind warning for Friday morning through Saturday night. This powerful storm is expected to bring two (2) to five (5) inches of rain to the Valley and four (4) to six (8) inches to the foothills. Breezy winds are also expected with this system, especially Friday into Saturday. Wind gusts of 40 mph are possible in our area.

We are asking residents to take the necessary precautions to protect their safety and homes from flooding and wind damage.

PROTECT YOUR HOME:

  • Please help avoid street-flooding by sweeping or raking leaves and debris away from gutters and storm sewers.
  • If your property has a history of flooding, plan for sandbags ahead of the storm. The city is providing sand and sandbags at three locations, free of charge. Residents are encouraged to take as many sandbags as they need. Please bring your own shovel.
  • Sand bags are to be used for flood prevention and not to weigh down lawn furniture or to keep bark in landscaping areas. Please put lawn furniture indoors if possible, and help ensure that sand bags are available for those residents who need sand bags for flood prevention.

Sandbag Locations: (Please note changes in some locations)
  •      Joiner Park on the East side of the Parking lot (1701 Nicolaus Rd.)
  •      Twelve Bridges Library in the East Parking Lot (485 Twelve Bridges Drive)
  •      McBean Park (southeast parking lot between the skate park and gun range)

  • Remove or put away items that may get blown off of porches and patios, such as umbrellas and patio furniture.
  • Try to remove your garbage cans as soon as possible after they are emptied. It's also a good idea to make a note of your can number in case it blows away from your home.

PERSONAL SAFETY:

  • Be prepared for a power outage with batteries, flashlights, extra blankets, food, and water.
  • Be cautious when crossing flooded streets or underpasses.
  • Avoid and report downed power lines.
  • Stay informed. Listen to TV and radio reports, or use online resources.

Message from the Placer Mosquito and Vector Control District

WARM, DRY WINTER SEES UNSEASONAL MOSQUITO ACTIVITY

The Placer Mosquito and Vector Control District reports an increase in calls from Placer County residents, especially on the western border, where mosquito activity has increased in the past few weeks.  "Mosquitoes are certainly noticeable right now, but the good news is, the risk of disease is very low," assures Joel Buettner, General Manager for the District.

According to the District, the type of mosquitoes that emerge during warm spells during the winter are not the species known to be effective in transmitting West Nile virus. In the fall, these mosquitoes seek shelter in protected places such as attics, outbuildings, covered patios, and shaded doorways where they hibernate over the colder winter months.  They emerge on warmer winter days, and if daytime temperatures drop or if there is any rain, they are likely to return to their overwintering shelters.

"Adult mosquito control methods during the summer months are not as appropriate or effective during the winter because of the weather and mosquito behavior during this time of year," states Buettner.  To best limit the impact of winter mosquitoes, the District strongly recommends the following:

  • Use an effective mosquito repellent
  • Limit outdoor activity at dawn and dusk
  • Keep doors and garages closed and window screens in good repair
The Placer Mosquito and Vector Control District is aware of the current winter mosquito issues, and is constantly working to improve prevention and public education methods to address this seasonal problem.  For more information, contact the Placer Mosquito and Vector Control District at (888) 768-2343 or visit www.placermosquito.org.
