City of Lincoln Declares Stage Two Water Alert
Mandating New Citywide Water Restrictions
The City of Lincoln has declared a Stage Two Water Alert in response to recently approved emergency regulations mandated by the State Water Resources Board. The City encourages all residents to comply with the mandatory watering restrictions that are now in place.
The Stage Two Water Alert is outlined in the City's 2010 Urban Water Management Plan. The alert calls on residents and businesses to comply with the following restrictions:
- Limit landscape watering to a maximum of three days per week.
- Landscape watering schedules: odd numbered addresses on Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and even numbered addresses on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.
- On watering days, water only between the hours of 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. to help reduce evaporation of irrigation water.
- Equip all hoses or filling apparatus for non-irrigation purposes with an automatic shutoff nozzle.
- Limit hosing of landscape surfaces except for health and safety purposes.
- Serve water only upon request to restaurant customers.
All residents are further encouraged to not waste water. The following examples constitute water waste:
- Watering of landscapes in a manner or to an extent which allows substantial amounts of water to run off the area being watered.
- The escape of water through breaks or leaks within the users' system for any substantial period of time (12 hours after detection).
The City is encouraging residents to call its newly formed Water Conservation Hotline if they observe water waste. The Hotline number is (916) 434-2455. Residents will be asked to leave a message giving their name, telephone number, and an address or description of the area where water waste is being observed.
"The City of Lincoln's Public Services Division is focused on educating, assisting, and serving our utility customers as they strive to meet the new State mandated water restrictions," said Scott Miller, Public Services Division Manager. "We sincerely empathize with our customers, as we too are faced with these restrictions, and want everyone to know that we are here to provide any useful conservation tips and resources we have to carry us all through the next few months."
