May is Bike Month!

May is Bike Month Logo

BECOME A CITY OF LINCOLN BICYCLE CHAMPION AND LET YOUR MILES BE COUNTED!

Whether bicycling for fun, exercise, to get to work, or to run an errand, let the miles you cycle in May be counted toward the Sacramento region's May is Bike Month goal of two million miles. Last year nearly 9,000 people logged 1.75 million miles. Placer County can claim 220,000 of these miles (no doubt, many of these we're hard-earned hill miles) with nearly 1,000 cyclists doing their part.

Mayisbikemonth.com is a website geared to area cyclists, and supported by businesses, public agencies, and volunteers who want to promote bicycling in the region.

Become one of the City of Lincoln's Bicycle Champions - pledge your cycling miles today for miles you'll ride in May on www.mayisbikemonth.com. After you've registered, email [email protected] to reserve your May is Bike Month t-shirt available at PCTPA, 299 Nevada Street, Auburn, Monday-Friday, 8 am-5 pm (while supplies last).

If you're up for more than meeting your personal goal, discover the online challenges. Friends, employers, schools, teams/clubs, and even cities can challenge one another.

Of all bike miles logged in May, 600,000 miles were commute and work related. This means the miles

traveled by bicycle instead of a motor vehicle kept global-warming CO2 and other pollutants out of the

region's air. It also created big savings in gasoline for cyclists!

Throughout the month, there will be weekly prize drawings with grand prize drawings for those who log miles every week in May.

The website's calendar provides information on bike-related events happening throughout the region.

Additionally, businesses that wants to support cyclists through discounts can sign up on mayisbikemonth.com as part of the Pedal Saver program. Also,

businesses, agencies, or organizations in the region are invited to apply to become a 'Bike Friendly Business'.

Let your cycling miles be counted and encourage a friend to do the same. Good for you, good for air quality, good for the region - mayisbikemonth.com.
