RAILROAD MAINTENANCE TO CONTINUE THROUGH FEBRUARY

UNION PACIFIC RAILROAD TO PERFORM RAILROAD CROSSING MAINTENANCE IN LINCOLN BEGINNING JANUARY 28, 2013

- Multiple Road Closures Scheduled -

Union Pacific Railroad will be upgrading six railroad crossings in the Lincoln area over the next several weeks. The City of Lincoln will refurbish the asphalt approach to each crossing, and Union Pacific will replace concrete pads and apply new ballast to ensure a stable roadbed for the railroad tracks immediately adjacent to each crossing. This maintenance project will give motorists an improved ride across the tracks and will help Union Pacific freight trains continue operating safely through the City of Lincoln.

This maintenance work is being done as part of an ongoing track improvement initiative that will support America's current and future freight transportation needs and enhance the safety and efficiency of Union Pacific's 32,000-mile network. Improved and additional rail capacity benefits everyone. It allows freight rail service to grow, helping to build a cleaner environment. According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, freight trains are nearly four times more fuel efficient than trucks. Motorists also benefit from reduced congestion on highways as a single Union Pacific train can remove up to 300 trucks off our roads.
