packages 'some things going on @ STL this week...'

Exhibit openings are lots of fun for us.  But it isn't all the glamour and energy of open night.  There's the receiving of packages from anxious artists and just trying to be available for all the different delivery services.

For Page Turner, Floyd and Rebekah were out of town and what follows is Melanie's experience dealing with the not so glamorous side of running 'some things looming'.

PICKING UP A PACKAGE

We get a lot of packages either through UPS or USPS here at 'some things looming.'  I wasn't here much last week due to being under-the-weather, so it was no surprise when I found a pink package slip in the mail slot this morning dated last Wednesday.

"Hmm," I thought. "I have an hour before we officially open. I'd better go pick up the package."
I'll chalk up my inability to think out into the future to my current illnesses and weakened immune system. Yeah, That's it.  Because if I had been operating under full mental capacity, I would have thought "Raining. Raining, windy, and walking half a block with a package of unknown size, undetermined weight."  And I might have decided tomorrow. Yes, tomorrow would be better to walk half a block with a package of unknown size, undetermined weight.

PAGE TURNER
This is exhibit closes Saturday, May 18th, 2013.  Included here is a link to some photos of the opening.  That will give you a little sneak peak but you need to see this work up close to appreciate it fully.

'some thing looming' closes for the summer and re-opens with the exhibit: Food For Thought in September.  We'll be working hard to get the building ready for the new exhibit year.  Next year is our 5th exhibit year!  We are very excited about that.
Stay tuned for some changes that we think you will like.

Honeybrook Community Library Fundraiser

During the Page Turner exhibit, The Boutique at 'some things looming' will offer charming, handcrafted purses constructed from re-purposed books created by Linda Beiler.

Linda is a PA juried artist and is best know for her Wheat Straw art and related books.  All proceeds from these purchases will go entirely to the Honeybrook Community Library.

The phrase "food for thought" describes something that is stimulating and interesting to think about, perhaps even profound.  The essential idea behind the phrase "food for thought" is figurative. It's the idea that some  problems or concepts might feed our minds much as food nourishes the body.

Community Exhibit

In conjunction with the all fiber exhibit, Page Turner, in the main gallery, 'some things looming' invited the public to participate in a second communal exhibit of altered books. There were few rules governing this exhibit except that the creator was required to use a page from a book that we provided and could not exceed the size of the page.

This exhibit was opened up to all media therefore non-fiber techniques were welcomed.  This work is exhibited at 'STL' until May 18.  If you contributed work and wish to have it returned, please plan on picking up your piece at the closing of Page Turner.
