An another exhibit season comes to an end!

We come to the end of our 4th exhibit season with the presentation of   PAGE TURNER.   We are delighted and thankful for the support we have received.  Plans for next year, our 5th exhibit season, are well underway and we have decided to make it a year of celebration.

While our primary vision is to support and nurture the fiber arts community in Reading and beyond, our secondary mission is to bring something good to downtown Reading, PA

It takes many people making many small steps to make a difference in a city this large.   So.  Make the small step.  Show up at our opening on April 5th.  Then, make reservations at one of our outstanding, fabulous restaurants in town for dinner afterwards.

Now that's what I call a pretty nice way to end the work week.  Horderves, a little avant garde art and some poetry reading topped off with dinner in town.

We sometimes think of STL as our 'field of dreams'.  You know the line from the movie where he says, "If you build it, they will come."  Many of you have discovered our little jewel in the heart of downtown Reading.  Spread the word.

Come!

Check out the fun we're going to have during the next few weeks.

All our best and with thanks for your tremendous support,

Rebekah and Melanie

Community Exhibit

In conjunction with the all fiber exhibit, Page Turner, in the main gallery, 'some things looming' invited the public to participate in a second communal exhibit of altered books. There were few rules governing this exhibit except that the creator was required to use a page from a book that we provided and could not exceed the size of the page.

This exhibit was opened up to all media therefore non-fiber techniques were welcomed. This exhibit will be presented in the community gallery at 'some things looming'

Altered Book 1
What is an altered book?

April 20, 2013
9:00 to 12:00 pm

An altered book starts with an already published book, old or new, which can be transformed in a variety of ways ... by adding other images, text, drawing, stitching ... or by subtracting, removing pages, erasing, covering, obliterating. This workshop will enable participants to engage with a variety of different media, offering multiple ways in which to alter texts using both traditional and non-traditional materials.
