Maryland Legislative Update

May 19,2014

Folks,

Now that the Maryland Legislature has finished the 2015 session, approved bills have been forwarded to the Governor for approval or veto.  Several of this year's bills have an impact on your life here at Deep Creek Lake, so we are glad to provide this update for you.  We thank the Chamber of Commerce for providing their 2015 Legislative Scorecard which was just released and is on of the sources for this report.

HB139

Sunday Alcohol Sales On-Premise No Food Requirement

Approved and signed by the Governor

HB356/ SB254

Deep Creek Lake Buy Down

Approved and signed by the Governor

HB194/

SB44

Increase Speed Limit to max 70 MPH on Maryland Highways

Approved and signed by the Governor
HB860

State Lakes Invasive Species Act of 2015

Approved and signed by the Governor
HB0449/
SB0409

Environment - Hydraulic Fracturing - Regulations
Approved but has not been signed by the Governor

HB0449/SB0409 is the bill the Governor has until June 2 to sign or veto and provides the moratorium on "fracking" until October, 2017.  HB860 is the bill that FoDCL worked hard to get passed.  HB194 means some time will be saved on your drive on I-68.  By the way, those of you coming from Northern Virginia will find Corridor H is a real time saver and almost finished to Davis, WV.  HB356 impacts a very small piece of lake front property on Yacht Club Road.  And HB139 means the bars and liquor stores will be serving/opening at 1:00 P.M. on Sundays.  You can find the details of the bills online at www.mgaleg.maryland.gov.

Cheers,

Bob Hoffmann

President
