County Commissioner Candidates' Responses to POA Questions

May 30, 2014

Folks:

Your POA board circulated a series of questions to the 18 candidates who are running for the three seats on the Garrett County Board of Commissioners.  The responses from 13 of the 18 candidates who responded have been received, summarized onto a spread sheet and now published along with their complete unedited responses.  The summary has taken each answer, edited and summarized it to fit into the spread sheet.  Each candidate's complete unedited response is attached for your review.  The summary and each of the individual responses can be viewed by clicking on the hi-lighted names below:

Shortly after this eBlast is published, it will be uploaded to the POA website and will be found here.

According to the Garrett County Board of Elections, Garrett County has almost 3 times more Republicans than Democrats or Independents registered to vote. The June primary determines the Republican, Democrat and Independent candidates who will be on the ballot in November. This means that most Garrett County races may be decided in the June primary.  With 13 Republican candidates running for the three County Commissioner seats in the primary, it's important to select the three Republican candidates who will oppose the Democrat, Independent, Libertarian and unaffiliated candidates on the November general election ballot.

The POA encourages you to vote in both the primary election and the general election.

In the April 4th eBlast, we listed these important election dates:

You now know that the important election dates are
June 24 and November 4, 2014, and you should know that you must be registered 21 days before the election. June 3, 2014 is the close of registrations and the party affiliation deadline.  Maryland supports early voting and it begins on June 12 and ends on June 19. Requests for absentee ballots must be received by June 20 and they can be requested in person at the Board of Elections office or on line here.

Since its inception in the late 1930's the POA has been concerned about the well being of Deep Creek Lake.  Today, we are more concerned than ever about not only the Lake but the Watershed and all of Garrett County.  You, the members of the POA, pay the bulk of the taxes that support not only the lake, the watershed, the county and in part the state of Maryland.  We have developed good working relationships with the elected leaders who represent you.  We will work to continue those relationships and work to develop strong relationships with the new leaders who you elect.

Cheers,
