Boater's Warning - Sandy Storm Damage

 May 1, 2013

POA Members,

During the Policy Review Board Meeting on Monday evening, April 29th, one of the Board Members related an experience that occurred to him recently while he was boating on the lake.  He noticed what appeared to be a portion of a tree branch sticking out of the water so he avoided the "branch" and slowed to take a closer look at what it was.  What he found was a tree floating just below the surface of the lake that had broken off from its trunk/stump.  Eric Null, DCL Acting Manager, advised there have been several instances that his staff have responded to involving similar sightings which resulted in portions of trees being removed from the lake.  Although some instances of branches and trees found in the lake each spring are not uncommon, more can be expected this year due to the damage Garrett County sustained in October of last year from Hurricane Sandy.

As you are out on the lake early this boating season, we recommend you remain aware of the possibility of encountering partially submerged tree limbs or even trees themselves.  Should you see anything that could be a hazard to safe boating in the lake, exercise appropriate caution then please contact the Lake Management Office immediately at 301-387-4111 to report the sighting and provide a location so that the situation can be made safe for all.

Thanks very much for your continued support and please enjoy our lake!

Sincerely,

Troy Ellington

President
