President's Spotlight on Hunger

Dear Friends,

On January 16th, Gathering Change, Inc. participated in 5% Day at Whole Foods in Swampscott. Not only did the staff make us feel welcome,
but we got to speak with enthusiastic shoppers, reconnect with a dear friend and increase hunger awareness in Swampscott. We were thrilled to hear that 5% of the days pre-tax total came to $3,501.69.

This week I delivered the checks to three amazing organizations who work tirelessly to help those in their community struggling with food insecurity, Swampscott Interfaith Food Pantry, St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry and the Jewish Family and Children's Services Table Program.

When I asked Pat Krippendors, who volunteers at the Swampscott Interfaith Food Pantry, how difficult it was to only bring food to the Senior Center and Elderly Housing once a month, she quoted Calvin Coolidge who said: " "We cannot do everything at once, but we can do something at once." This beautiful town 15 miles north of Boston is only 3 square miles and borders the Atlantic Ocean, but even they are not immune to hunger.

Thank you Whole Foods of Swampscott for your hospitality, generosity and commitment to helping your neighbors in need!

Sincerely,

Dorothy Goodwin, President

About Gathering Change, Inc.

We are a 501(c)3 non-profit charitable organization that collects spare change from our communities for distribution back into our neighborhood food pantries and social programs. Since our first collection in October of 2008 we have been able to donate food or funds to over 46 Massachusetts food pantries.

Did You Know?

Most food drives are not successful due to many expired donated food items. Spare change goes a long way when you consider every $1 donated is equal to $4 of food.
