Things Really Were Bigger in Texas

Conference logo 2014

Numbers never lie and they prove the 2014 IPI Conference & Expo broke records!  Nearly 3,000 attendees and more than 230 exhibitors were gathered in Dallas for last week's four days of education, technology and networking opportunities. The best part? Seeing so many of our IPI community there - learning, sharing, and having so much fun together! From the launch of the Green Garage Certification program to the Smart Parking Alliance's first Municipality Symposium to the more than 70 educational sessions to the exhibit hall the size of four football fields, there was ample opportunity to learn, share, and exchange with peers and colleagues from around the globe.  This year's conference also marked the 20th anniversary of the first CAPP graduation and made history again, by recognizing its largest CAPP graduating class. There was an impressive lineup of awards winners, including IPI's Awards of Excellence competition for design, Professional Recognition program, the Poster Session winners, Best in Show Exhibits and our new Parking Matters® marcomm awards.  If you missed this IPI Conference & Expo, you truly missed the largest parking show of the year but you can catch up on all the happenings, memories and more on our social media outlets (Parking Matters Blog, TwitterPinterest, Instagram, Facebook) or in the upcoming July and August issues of The Parking Professional.  Be sure to save the date for the 2015 IPI Conference & Expo: June 29 - July 2 in Las Vegas.

IPI Conference Creates Positive Media Buzz About Parking

Lots of media-worthy news came out of the 2014 IPI Conference & Expo last week in Dallas thanks to IPI's Parking Matters® program, which continues to generate positive parking coverage from online and social media, newspapers, magazines, radio, and TV. Here's a sampling of coverage about IPI's new research about municipalities and parking, award-winning parking people, parking programs, and parking places, plus a new book on sustainability and the Green Parking Council's launch of Green Garage Certification:

Look for these and other links to positive parking media coverage in the Parking Matters® section of the IPI website, as well as a downloadable pdf with tips on

How to Speak Parking Matters®.
Post-Conference Education Session Information

Conference logo 2014Thank you to all the IPI Dallas Conference presenters.  We had such packed sessions the first day that we had to combine rooms and add ballrooms to meet the needs of the large number of attendees.  What a great conference!  Thank you to each and every one of our 102 education session presenters, our 64 volunteer room facilitators, and all of the DFW volunteers!  Your work and efforts are what made the education sessions such a success.

If you attended a session that was particularly interesting and would like to download the handouts for future reference, please click here, then proceed to click attendee service center and log in with your email and password.  Once you enter your credentials, please click on the Handouts link on the left hand side.  Most of the sessions are uploaded, however, if you would like the PowerPoint for a session that is not downloaded, please contact Kathleen Federici.

Thanks again and we look forward to seeing you all in 2015 at the next IPI conference in Vegas!

Effective Training

E-learning courses are an effective way to deliver industry relevant content to your staff in a convenient way.  Pick and choose which modules suit your needs.  The courses have professional voice talents narrating, as well as various interactions and illustrated scenes played out by avatars.  Each course ends with an assessment that must be passed with a score of 70 percent or greater. Successful completion of the assessment will result in a personalized course completion certificate.  Currently, IPI has more than 500 participants in the 10-month-old online courses and training program.  End of course evaluations prove a 92 percent or greater satisfaction rate.  If you haven't already, consider IPI Online Courses and Training to effectively meet your professional development needs.

The Parking Professional: Ray LaHood Talks Parking

"It is necessary and forward-looking to integrate parking policy and transportation policy in urban planning projects." That's just one of the thoughts on parking shared by former U.S. Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood in the June issue of The Parking Professional. Now co-chair of Building America's Future, a bi-partisan coalition of current and former elected officials working to raise awareness about the needs of the transportation infrastructure, LaHood is a well-known champion of infrastructure investment.

In his interview with The Parking Professional, LaHood shares thoughts on the future of transportation, economic success, infrastructure priorities, and the role that can and should be played by parking and parking professionals. It's a straightforward, insightful conversation you'll want to read and pass on to your colleagues.

Also in the June issue:

  • Lean Smart Parking: How to cost-effectively collect high-quality data.
  • Charging Up: How one university committed to sustainability in the parking lot.
  • ParkingPLUS: An architectural competition that challenges new thinking about parking, with great results.

And more. Don't miss the June issue! For advertising information, contact Bonnie Watts, CEM. Have a great story to tell? Contact editor Kim Fernandez.

CAPP Changes Go Into Effect in 3 Weeks!

Since March 2014, IPI has made numerous efforts to get the word out regarding the new CAPP exam and the changes to earning the CAPP credential as well as recertification guidelines.  All the changes will take effect in full on July 1, 2014, just three weeks away.  This is a very exciting time for the parking profession. The CAPP changes meet international credentialing standards and also will make the CAPP exam a more convenient testing experience.

Forty-two new CAPPs graduated in Dallas, June 4, 2014.  Congratulations to each and every one of you!  Another congratulations to the 14 parking professionals who tested on June 5th.

If you continue to have questions about the CAPP changes, please view the archived webinar found here, titled, "What's New with CAPP?"  Please also find the Frequently Asked Questions here.  Always feel free to call the office for more information at 571.699.3011 or email us at capp@parking.org.
