TRB and IPI Collaborate on EV Charging Study
|
IPI representatives recently met at the Beckman Center of the National Academies in Irvine, Calif., as part of Transportation Research Board's (TRB) Airport Cooperative Research Program (ACRP). TRB assembled a group of parking, planning and environmental experts to conduct research and better understand the approaches and practices airports have used in electric vehicle (EV) hosting.
ACRP research findings will highlight airport best practices in the installation, operation, and maintenance of EV charging stations. Research findings will be disseminated next spring and will be showcased at the 2014 IPI Conference & Expo in Dallas, June 1-4, and be of interest to any organization focusing on EV charging in their parking operation.
Participating on the research panel are Dorothy Harris (Denver International Airport), IPI Chair Liliana Rambo, CAPP (Houston Airport System), and IPI Executive Director Shawn Conrad, CAE.

IPI's Next Webinar: Electric Vehicles
|
Vehicle electrification has been a major goal of the Obama administration, as it reduces America's reliance on foreign oil imports, improves urban air quality and eliminates a significant source of carbon pollution. Today, America is the world's largest EV market and strong growth in the U.S. EV sector will have important implications for the International Parking Institute (IPI) and its members in the decades to come. In this webinar, Dr. Tillemann will brief participants on the current state of the U.S. EV market and explore ways parking professionals can prepare for and help facilitate the electrification of America's cars.
Instructor:
Levi Tillemann, Ph.D., MA
Special Advisor for Policy and International Affairs, U.S. Department of Energy
Thursday, October 24 at 3:00 p.m. EDT/ 12:00 p.m. PDT (60 minutes)

The Parking Professional: Dispensing the Future
|
It's not often one can win an architecture award for a structure that hasn't been built, but that's exactly what Boston firm Moskow Linn Architects did a few years ago. Better yet, they did it with a parking garage.
This wasn't any parking garage, mind you. The structure they designed took its inspiration from a Pez dispenser-the little plastic toys that spit out candies when their hinged tops are pulled back. It was designed to improve city living both in its award-winning design and its purpose, which was to dispense shared cars on-demand to members of Zipcar in cities such as Boston and Washington, D.C., where downtown real estate comes at a premium and buildings tend to go up instead of out.
