Conference logo 2014 If you are an experienced and articulate individual willing to share your expertise and real-world practices, you are invited to submit a speaking proposal for the 2014 IPI Conference & Expo -- but you must do so by today! If you can deliver a presentation that illustrates a case study, illuminates important issues, brings how-to knowledge, or increases the professionalism of your peers, be sure to submit a proposal and help further the education of the parking industry by Oct. 1. Contact IPI Deputy Director Henry Wallmeyer or 540.371.7535 with questions. We look forward to your proposal!

Where's IPI?

Be sure to look for IPI leaders and staff at events in October. We won't hide like Waldo (or dress as badly), but we'll  be out there--find us, say hello, and give us your thoughts, comments, and insights on what is happening with the parking industry and how IPI can play a part. IPI Executive Director Shawn Conrad, CAE, and Deputy Director Henry Wallmeyer will be at the following IPI Allied State and Regional Association conferences presenting on IPI and the trends and future of parking:

Pennsylvania Parking Association/New Jersey Parking Institute Annual Conference, Oct. 2-4

IPI Board of Directors and Green Parking Council Board of Directors meeting, Oct. 17-18

Be sure to also look for presentations from IPI's Sustainability and Technology Committees at these meetings.

Q&A Transcript from Snow and Ice Management Webinar

Phill Sexton, director of education & outreach for the Snow & Ice Management Association, Inc., delivered IPI's Sept. 18 webinar on practices for managing snow and ice. Here is part of the question and answer transcript from the webinar:

What are some strategies for enforcing restricted parking areas such as fire lanes when markers are obscured by snow?

The simplest strategy I've experienced, particularly for areas with heavier snow season, is to install traffic cones when snow is forecasted. They both allow you to see the area and also warn people not to park there. Once you have achieved clear conditions, remove the cones until the next storm. The challenge will be getting people to obey and who sometimes decide to remove the cones. This happens even when it doesn't snow unfortunately.

Access the archived version of the webinar here and IPI members can read the full Q&A transcript here.
