Call For Speakers: Your Time to Shine
|
The International Parking Institute (IPI) Conference & Expo is the world's largest parking industry event, with 2,700+ attendees, 200+ exhibitors, and 60+ educational opportunities. Proposals from prospective speakers are currently being accepted for the 2014 IPI Conference & Expo, June 1-4 in Dallas.
Experienced and articulate individuals willing to share their expertise and real-world practices are invited to submit speaking proposals. If you can deliver a presentation that illustrates a case study, illuminates important issues, brings how-to knowledge, or increases the professionalism of your peers, be sure to submit a proposal and help further the education of the parking industry.
Building on the success of last year's inaugural Ignite: Parking session, next year's conference will feature three Ignite sessions (Ignite: Technology, Ignite: Sustainability, and Ignite: Parking), where high-energy speakers present for five minutes using 20 slides that automatically advance every 15 seconds.
Presenters at the 2014 IPI Conference & Expo are entitled to a 25 percent discount off full conference or daily registrations (CAPP class registrants are not eligible for registration discounts).

IPI's ADA and Parking Webinar is Tomorrow
|
Nobody wants to be the parking professional who's known for all the broken equipment on his lot. Nobody wants to be the one whose exit booths are inadequately staffed after a big event. And nobody--but nobody--wants to be the person in charge of the parking that racked up all the ADA violations. That's all well and good, but few regulations are as confusing and have as many potential potholes as the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). It's an integral part of every parking operation, from design to enforcement, but as seen by recent traffic on the C-PARK L listserv, there are still more questions than answers out there.
It's time to blow away the fog and take a clean look at ADA and parking. Join moderator Doug Holmes, CAPP, founder of C-PARK L, and panelists Linda Kauffman, Bill Kavanagh, AIA, NCARB, and Teresa Trussell, CAPP, for an information-packed presentation on ADA's political challenges in municipal parking, common mistakes that trigger non-compliance, and recent changes that affect old and new spaces.
Moderator:
W. Douglas Holmes, CAPP, Founder C-PARK L
Instructors:
Linda Kauffman, Retired, Former Executive Director, Allentown Parking Authority
Bill Kavanagh, AIA, NCARB, Director of Parking Design, The Harman Group, Inc.
Teresa Trussell, CAPP, Parking Operations Supervisor, Ohio University

American Association of Airport Executives (AAAE) Hosting Parking and Landside Management Workshop
|
Parking is the largest non-airline revenue source for an airport, and landside facilities are the first and last impressions experienced by airport users. Controlling parking and landside costs and maximizing revenues must be carefully balanced with providing efficient services and good customer care. These and other critical revenue and service issues will be addressed at the 26th Annual Parking and Landside Management Workshop in Minneapolis, Minn., Nov. 4-6.
Participants will discuss the challenges facing parking and landside operations and learn strategies on how proactive landside management works to minimize roadway congestion and ground transportation delays and maximize non-aeronautical revenue. For more information and to register.

The Parking Professional: Transforming On-Street Parking Spaces
|
Midway through an otherwise ordinary day three years ago, Jeff Petry picked up the phone to hear the voice of a seriously stymied parking enforcement officer.
"He said we had people sitting in parking spaces outside Starbucks and other downtown businesses," says Petry, parking manager at the City of Eugene, Ore. "They'd paid the meters and they had chairs and were sitting there. My officers wanted to know what to do."
With that, Petry and his staff were introduced to Park(ing) Day. Launched by San Francisco art and design studio Rebar in 2005, Park(ing) Day encourages organizations, governments, businesses, and individual citizens to re-think parking spaces one day a year and (legally) transform them into mini-parks, art exhibits, exercise spaces, and other things that have nothing to do with cars.
You can read the rest of this article and the August issue of The Parking Professional here. Submit photos from your city or college's Park(ing) Day activities to Kim Fernandez and we will run them in a future issue.
