IPI News Release May Help Save Lives
|
IPI distributed a news release alert to media outlets throughout the U.S. last week warning of the dangers of leaving children unattended in parked cars, particularly in the heat of summer. More than 20 children have died this year and unfortunately that number is expected to climb. During the past decade, 600 children have lost their lives in this tragic way. The news alert helps educate the public by explaining just how fast a car can reach lethal temperatures even if it isn't that hot outside, and even with windows cracked open. Special thanks to Geary Robinson, Ph.D., CAPP, co-chair of IPI's Safety and Security Committee, for helping spread the message with an interview on the IRN-USA Radio Network. This week, IPI will be sending a customizable news release template to state and regional associations that want to distribute local releases on this important topic in conjunction with National Heat Stroke Prevention Day on July 31, an annual event sponsored by the National Highway Safety Traffic Administration (NHSTA).
