Share your opinions and insights about parking trends by answering a few brief, provocative, fun, and important questions on the 2013 IPI Emerging Trends in Parking Survey. Please respond today, or no later than Wednesday, April 17. New this year:  Questions identifying trend-setting cities that are taking a progressive approach to parking, and the chance to identify your favorite parking facilities around the world. There's even one question that identifies the bad parking/driving problems you find most frustrating. Responses are anonymous. The survey is open to IPI members and non-members, so don't hesitate to share the link with your parking colleagues. Click here to take the survey now: IPI Emerging Trends in Parking Survey.

Get Ready, Get Set, Go! Fast Track Learning at IPI Conference & Expo

2013 Conference LogoListening and learning from the parking industry's best and brightest is what the four-day IPI Conference & Expo, May 19-22, is all about. Have you registered? Booked your hotel? Now's the time to immerse yourself in descriptions of educational sessions (available at ipiconference.parking.org) familiarize yourself with the conference schedule and Expo hall hours, and firm up appointments or plans to meet colleagues.

Educational sessions are organized into five tracks: Best Practices,  Sustainability, Design/Renovation/Maintenance, Finance, and Technology. New this year:  a fast-paced Ignite session--an explosive meeting technique you'll love. Don't forget the conference is in sunny, oceanfront Fort Lauderdale, and IPI is planning lots of fun, with networking opportunities in such settings as site facility tours, science museums, indoor go-karting, golf, airboating the Everglades, and more. Learn more here.

New Hotel Added for IPI Conference & Expo

Due to the overwhelming response to IPI's 2013 Conference & Expo another hotel has been added to the official lodging block. The Renaissance Fort Lauderdale Cruise Port Hotel offers free Wi-Fi, a convenient location just minutes away from Port Everglades and Broward County Convention Center. It has recently undergone a $6 million renovation. The IPI group rate is $189/night. To make a reservation call 800.468.3571 and mention IPI to receive the group rate. Shuttle service will be provided to and from the convention center.

Beware of Hotel Brokers for the 2013 IPI Conference & Expo

IPI has received several reports that wholesalers contacted exhibitors to book Fort Lauderdale hotel reservations. These brokers falsely imply they are affiliated with show management and secure full or partial prepayment for their rooms from attendees and/or exhibiting companies. IPI reminds its attendees that we have no affiliation with any of these room brokers. The only hotels officially sanctioned and certified by IPI are listed on our hotel page, found here.  Please be aware none of these properties will reach out to you to book your hotel reservations for the IPI Conference & Expo.  You must contact the hotel directly and mention that you are with the IPI Conference & Expo to receive the negotiated rate. Those who opt for alternatives to the IPI negotiated rates may find themselves at risk.  Daily/Special event shuttle transportation is only offered to/from the convention center to/from official host properties.

IPI Webinar: Legal Issues and Parking

Risk Management and General Liability from the Legal Point of View

Does your security plan or facility design set you up to be sued? Believe it or not, many do and while their design certainly wasn't intended to do that, the legal risks are all too real.

This webinar will discuss safety and security in parking facilities as part of an overall management plan, including contracts and helping managers develop plans to keep customers and employees safe and owners out of court. It will review passive and active design features, measures that can be taken to protect employees and patrons, and parking facility concerns that include risk management, insurance coverage, and reducing liability exposure.

Another Successful CAPP Seminar
The Certified Administrator of Public Parking (CAPP) program has just wrapped up another successful seminar. Candidates attended the Parking Enforcement: On- & Off-Street and Media joint seminars. The Parking Enforcement seminar, instructed by Roamy Valera, CAPP, SP Plus/Standard Parking Corporation and Jennifer Rentz and Stephen Hittman, Complus Data Innovations, Inc., provided information regarding planning, evaluating, and assessing the need for your enforcement program; program promotion, quality service, and constituency building; enforcement adjudication programs; and how the DMV can work with you in addressing scofflaws.

The Media seminar, instructed by Phil Rabin, Capital Communicator; Judy Taub, WTOP Radio; and Bruce Alan, WTOP Radio, covered print and broadcast media and provided the do's and don'ts of handling hard news stories. A panel of local media participated in a panel discussion that offered behind-the-scenes information to prepare attendees for the mock radio and TV interviews during the hands-on educational session. A review of parking-related media stories and a social media presentation were included as well.

Want to receive the same top-notch training your peers just did? Sign up for the CAPP program today by downloading the application. Also, this year the CAPP Parking Industry-Specific five-day session to be held during the 2013 IPI Conference & Expo in Fort Lauderdale is open to anyone who wishes to attend. Go to www.parking.org/conference and register as a CAPP Delegate Member to be included in the CAPP class. Hurry -- time is running out and there is limited seating available.
