IPI is a Founding Ambassador of DOE's Workplace Charging Challenge
|
The International Parking Institute (IPI) has been named a founding ambassador and will play a significant role in support of the Department of Energy's (DOE) Workplace Charging Challenge. The goal of the challenge is to increase the number of American employers offering workplace charging by tenfold in five years. IPI has committed to develop and execute a plan to support and promote deployment of workplace charging infrastructure.
As part of the kickoff event for this important initiative, IPI Chair Casey Jones, CAPP, will participate in a Workplace Charging Challenge Roundtable with other stakeholders and senior administration officials January 31 in Washington, D.C. Following the roundtable, Secretary of Energy Steven Chu will recognize IPI as a leader in supporting the nation's plug-in electric vehicle charging infrastructure in his keynote speech at the 2013 Washington Auto Show.
The Workplace Charging Challenge was developed to support President Obama's EV Everywhere Challenge announced in March last year. Look for more on this event and initiative in upcoming issues of the IPInsider, The Parking Professional, and at the 2013 IPI Conference & Expo.

IPI Highlights Parking at TRB
|
The International Parking Institute made significant strides last week at the Transportation Research Board's (TRB) annual meeting in Washington, D.C. The TRB is part of the National Research Council; its mission is to provide leadership in transportation research and information exchange. This can have a lot to do with parking issues. While there were many education and committee meetings throughout the five-day conference, one was of particular interest to IPI and the parking industry.
During the transportation demand management subcommittee discussion, a question was raised about developing a TRB standing committee on parking. This new committee would cast a wider light on parking's important role in transportation, economic development, urban planning, sustainability, reducing traffic congestion, and many other favorable mobility roles. Having a distinctive focus would also enable the industry to receive additional support for research and project studies. The recommendation received support from attendees, and IPI is following up with TRB leaders to help establish this new committee.
IPI will keep you informed as new information about TRB and the potential role of a parking committee becomes available. IPI has offered our full support to helping TRB develop this separate focus on parking.

IPI Webinar: P3 and a University Parking System - The Ohio State University Story
|
Turning campus parking operations over to public private partnerships (P3) through upfront payments and long-term leases is gaining attention and interest. There are clear benefits, but also many details that must be clarified and documented so bidders understand exactly what they are bidding on, and the university understands what it will retain and how the arrangement will work.
Join us for this webinar and:
- Review what should be considered in a long-term lease of campus parking facilities.
- Learn how to define and separate roles and responsibilities.
- Develop operating standards that address the needs of the institution while producing a biddable document.
Instructor:
Sarah Blouch, President, CampusParc LP
