New Contact Information for First Observer
|
In nearly three years, the Transportation Security Administration's (TSA) First Observer parking-specific, anti-terrorism training program trained nearly 13,000 individuals to observe, access, and report suspicious activities. One of the benefits of the program was that it was funded by a government grant and was free. However, with the good can also come the bad, and unfortunately the funding expired as of November 30. This means that training has been put on hold, but the TSA has informed and assured us that the program will be active again in the near future. In the meantime please report suspicious activity to 877.847.5510 and for what you need to know to report suspicious activity or visit http://www.dhs.gov/how-do-i/report-suspicious-activity. Please contact Henry Wallmeyer, IPI deputy director, if you have any questions or would like further information.

Focusing on Front Line Employees - Florida Parking Association's Carol Easterling Award
|
Earlier this month, the Florida Parking Association held their 33nd Annual Conference and tradeshow in the historic city of St. Augustine. This year was successful again for their Carol Easterling Award, which recognizes the efforts of extraordinary front line employees. It is a great opportunity for members to showcase positive behavior. Out of seven top-notch nominations received by the board, three regional winners were chosen to represent the south, central, and northern regions of the state. The winners were:
- Maria Molina, Miami Parking Authority - Parking Attendant (Southern Region)
- Lennette Allen-George, City of Orlando - Parking Facilities Assistant Supervisor (Central Region)
- James "Jim" Rodenburg , City of Gainesville - Parking Operations Attendant II (Northern Region)
The regional winners created a "life in the day" video that gave a glimpse of their daily routine and showcased their organizations. The goal of shining a bright light on the efforts of the front line employees, who are arguably the most important assets in any parking organization, was met.
The grand prize winner was Maria Molina who was chosen for her notable passion and pride in the role she plays in her organization. She is a proud team member of the Miami Parking Authority and will represent all front line employees from the Florida region at the 2013 IPI Conference & Expo. You can see Maria's winning video here.

IPI Webinar: P3 and a University Parking System - The Ohio State University Story
|
Turning campus parking operations over to public private partnerships (P3) through upfront payments and long-term leases is gaining attention and interest. There are clear benefits, but also many details that must be clarified and documented so bidders understand exactly what they are bidding on, and the university understands what it will retain and how the arrangement will work.
Join us for this webinar and:
- Review what should be considered in a long-term lease of campus parking facilities.
- Learn how to define and separate roles and responsibilities.
- Develop operating standards that address the needs of the institution while producing a biddable document.

IPI is on "The List"
|
IPI was mentioned during a recent segment on the hot new show The List, which aired on network-affiliated stations in Phoenix, Baltimore, Tampa, Cincinnati, Cleveland, and Tulsa. IPI Chair Casey Jones, CAPP, was featured via a Skype interview with the reporter, and not only is IPI mentioned, but the segment also includes footage of the IPI website, parking.org. As usual, the commentary includes light-hearted disbelief that there is an association for parking professionals, but there's time spent talking about industry innovations such as mobile apps as well. Watch the video here.
