Greetings!
A renewed "Energy" is being generated throughout the club these days. Participation is at an all time high in our group fitness classes, tennis courts are booked and the fitness floor is buzzing with excitement as we have kicked off our third annual Transformation Challenge! I am thrilled to see so many families enjoying the Lagoon Waterpark and Activity Center; it certainly keeps the kids busy on these winter days. Traditionally, February is the month when many people lose sight of their fitness resolutions. Don't let this happen to you! Whether it is to improve your tennis game, learn to swim or prepare for a triathlon, our experienced instructors can help you meet your goals. Liberty is proud to be your home away from home, and to be part of your extended family. We are here to help you Live Live Well! In good health, Jane Nieman Club Manager

From Rubble to Renewal
Bob and Katie Jazwinski, along with their two children, Jessica, 5 ½ years old, and Bobby, 3 ½ years old, were one of the many families that lost everything in the Dexter Tornado.
On March 15, 2012, Katie was out for a run with the two kids in a jogger, cutting the run short because Jessie had a nose bleed. Bob had just gotten home. The sky darkened, the hail started, and they quickly realized it was serious. They rushed into the walk in closet, covering themselves with Katie's running clothes. Bob dashed out, grabbed the photo albums from under the bed, ran back into the closet and fought the force of the wind to keep the door closed. When it was over, with leaves swirling around what used to be the hallway, he turned to Katie and said, "Our entire house is gone." They had rehearsed a tornado drill just two days earlier.
With everything in disarray the thing the family needed most was a safe haven, which led them to Liberty. The Jazwinski family joined Liberty on April 6, 2012. In Bob's words, "Liberty saved our sanity. We could get a full workout in. The kids had fun and were safe, and you provided stability and consistency when we needed it most. We were here every day in the summer and we honestly don't know what we would have done without you. Liberty has literally been a home away from home for our family, and we will always be grateful for everything that you offer, and the great people here."
With the newest member of their family, Samantha, 4 months old, they have just moved into their newly rebuilt home. And next month, on March 15, 2013, the 'Dexter's F3.1 Tornado Run/Walk' , a fundraiser Bob and Katie have organized , will take place at Hudson Mills. Local businesses have donated food and other items for the event and all of the proceeds will go to non-profits that helped the tornado victims. For more information visit jazzrunning.com
Liberty is honored to hear what we mean to the Jazwinski family. With so many of our members directly affected by the tornado, our hope is that when they walked through our doors, they felt the same way as the Jazwinskis: that Liberty is like a home away from home. We wish all of them the very best going forward as they each experience their own unique journey of renewal.

January 27 marked the start of the 3rd annual Transformation Challenge. Teams of four will now begin earning "Effort" points for exercising in the club as they aim to make improvements in their health and fitness. At the end of 8 weeks teams will be reassessed in five measures of fitness and will have their improvements combined with their Effort points to determine the Challenge winner. The winning team members will each receive iPod Nanos, and custom Liberty apparel. This year's Challenge will also introduce individual awards for the participants who make the largest improvements in the five measures of fitness.
New changes were implemented this year that should help the Challenge participants stay on track throughout the event. Each team is assigned one of Liberty's personal trainers as their official Transformation Challenge coach. Coaches will be providing support to their teams through education, encouragement and accountability. On Saturday, February 2nd each team had the opportunity to work with their coach in a 60-minute small group training session that provided instruction on such things as kettlebell training, TRX suspension training, plyometrics and flexibility.
In addition to adding coaches to the Challenge, teams are encouraged to exercise with each other as they are rewarded with more Effort points if they work out together in small groups. This revision to previous year's Challenges places a stronger emphasis on teams using the support provided by being part of a group to improve adherence to their individual health and fitness goals.
The past two Transformation Challenges have produced outstanding results, with an average of bodyfat reduction of 2.5% in just eight weeks. With the addition of team coaches, a revised point system and individual prizes, we expect to see the best results of any Transformation Challenge yet.
Good luck to all our 2013 Transformation Challenge Participants!
