Dedicated in 1911, the monument to the Unknown Solider has stood in the Santa Ana Cemetery as a reminder of the bravery of America's military, and a remembrance of those who have given their lives to defend our freedom.
It is interesting to note two things in the above image. First, there was damage to the eagle resulting from attempted theft (note the bent laying position). Secondly, this photo exemplifies poor restoration/conservation efforts as an improper color palate was used along with non-historic decals applied to the monument. The second image shows the results of Spectra Company's restoration efforts to return the eagle to its original position - having removed layers of unwanted paint to reveal the original beauty of the monument. As a result of the restoration efforts made by the Orange County Cemetery District, this piece will serve as a reminder for many years to come. Click Here for additional information on the project.
