January 2013

Greetings!

Happy New Year!  And welcome to a spring season of exciting literary events.  We start off with our annual Selected Members Reading on Tuesday, January 15, at 7 p.m., when we'll have a chance to hear a wide range of talent from within our own membership.  Don't miss it!

Selected Members Reading

Our annual showcase reading of Charlotte Writers' Club members will take place on January 15, 2013 at 7 p.m. at the Queens University Conference Center.  Roughly a dozen writers, including winners of the recent Nonfiction Contest, will have an opportunity to regale us with their literary talent, reading from their best work.  This is always an exciting time when CWC members young and old get to "strut their stuff" before their colleagues.  Find out what your fellow Charlotte writers are creating and show your support.

Recalling Memories for Your Family or the Public
Margaret Bigger will once again lead her six-week course, "Recalling Memories for Your Family or the Public," on Wednesday afternoons from 2-4 p.m. from January 23 to February 27.  This is an annual fundraiser to benefit the Charlotte Writers' Club.  Meetings will be held at Christ Episcopal Church, 1412 Providence Road.  Bigger is the author of Recalling Your Memories on Paper, Tape or Videotape.  To register for the course, call (704) 364-1788.

From Book Idea to the Book Shelf:
The Process and Business of Book Publishing

For our February 19 meeting, a panel of experienced book industry representatives will discuss how a book goes from the idea stage to the finished book for sale to the reading public. Come with your questions about the book biz and join in this sure-to-be-lively discussion!

Participants will include: author, agent, editor, sales & marketing director, publicist, wholesale distributor, bookseller, and an independent book marketing, sales and promotion consultant.  This meeting is co-sponsored by the Women's National Book Association - Charlotte.
