Ms. Arroyo asked the class to see if they could find the sum of the first 50 odd numbers. As everyone settled down to their addition, Terry ran to her and said, "The sum is 2,500." Ms. Arroyo thought, "Lucky guess," and gave him the task of finding the sum of the first 75 odd numbers. Within 20 seconds, Terry was back with the correct answer of 5,625.

How does Terry find the sum so quickly?

Internet Marketing... What's The Point?

We recently wrote a blog post called "I'm New To Internet Marketing, Where Do I Start?", and this blog post is a follow on from that.

In "I'm New To Internet Marketing, Where Do I Start?", we mentioned that we believe there are generally three different groups that Small Businesses fall into in regards to Internet Marketing:

1 - I'm already using Internet Marketing to bring in new business

2 - I'm not yet using Internet Marketing, but looking in to it

3 - I have no interest in Internet Marketing whatsoever

Obviously the "I'm New To Internet Marketing, Where Do I Start?" blog post dealt with #2, and now it's time to deal with #3.

Firstly, why would small businesses have no interest in Internet Marketing?

Well, the main reason is probably time.

Client Spotlight - Sussex Campervans

Hi, my name's Daniel Lopez, and I'm the Managing Director of Sussex Campervans Ltd.

I want to tell you the story of how I came to form Sussex Campervans.

I was one of those people who said "I'll never go camping" - I simply enjoyed my home comforts too much.   My wife convinced me to try a trailer tent. Despite the half a day we spent putting it up and then taking it back down again, I actually rather enjoyed the  experience and was keen to try it again... only this time, in something a little more convenient!

Over the next few years, we owned a folding caravan, and then a big touring caravan. Both these vehicles gave us some great family holidays, but they also came with their fair share of problems, and the hassle of having to tow them around made our holidays more stressful than we would have liked.

What we really needed was a campervan.

This would allow us to go away at the drop of a hat, without sacrificing our home comforts. Better yet, both my wife and I could drive it confidently because there was no towing involved.

I could already see the freedom that a campervan would bring me; I could just decide one day that I fancied a weekend away, and all I needed to do was pack some essentials, and I was ready to go!

After some careful research, I found that we could either buy a brand new campervan, complete with all the features we needed, but with a hefty pricetag, or we could choose a used camper that cost considerably less, but had been eaten and slept in by other people, and had used gas, electricity, and plumbing installations.

In the years that followed, we owned two used campers, both of which came with a myriad of problems; broken appliances, water leaks, worn fixtures, dirty upholstery, electrical and gas problems. You name it, it went wrong.

My background is in engineering and the technical trades, so one after the other, I went about making the repairs myself.

While I was doing this, I noticed design flaws which could easily improve. So I began to design and build my own campervans.

It wasn't long until I set up Sussex Campervans.  I now have a team of technicians who work all year round hand crafting beautiful campervans that are built to modern standards, with the latest technology, and come with a full warranty.

This is one of the most common questions we get asked when we first meet someone at one of our free consultations. They ask what we think, from a truly mutual point of view.

And What Do We Say?

We say that you should always try to do your own bookkeeping where possible. Why? Because it gives you a much better overview of your business. If you do your bookkeeping, you can perhaps start to see trends of when the most money comes in, or when your cashflow is at it's lowest point.

The problem with this is though, that a lot of people reply to our answer with this:

"I just don't have the time"

Which is a perfectly reasonable response; sometimes, you do simply not have the time to do your own bookkeeping, and it could be more cost effective for you to outsource it.
