Joke of the Week

There was a man who entered a local paper's pun contest. He sent in ten different puns hoping at least one of the puns would win but, unfortunately, no pun in ten did.

The answer, of course, was Richard Branson.

BrainTeaser - What am I?

Let's play a game.

I think you know where I am.
Because you know, I hold large amounts of knowledge.
Really, I can help.
Although since people usually come for
Riveting good stories and morales,
You, came to find knowledge in me
Whether it be history, science, or Braille.

I cannot be held in your hand, you see.
I'm quite a bit larger than that.
So come right in, and let's begin.
Put on your thinking cap!

By law, you do not actually need an accountant. The point of this post is to show you why you should want one.

An accountant, by nature, is a very number-orientated person; they work with your numbers all day, trying to reduce this number, or increase that number.

That's one reason you should want an accountant: they work with your numbers all day, they know where you are spending too much, or when a marketing activity isn't providing quite the ROI (Return on Investment) that you wanted.

An accountant is in the best position to advise you on how to make your company more profitable.

All small businesses need an accountant; granted, you don't legally need one, but if you want to build a successful business, a good accountant will be more of an asset than you could imagine.

But, they need to be a good accountant! Here are just a few warning signs that you may not have a good accountant, and you may need to appoint a new accountant.

  • It takes longer than 24 hours to receive a reply to a telephone call, email, or any other communication. When something goes wrong, you need to know how to fix it; and quick, especially when it's regarding your business!
  • They charge you for advice. This is something that we think is wrong with the accountancy profession; if you need an answer, and quickly, why should you have to pay for it? Why isn't free support and advice available throughout the year as part of a fixed fee?
