With the holidays fast approaching, we thought it would be appropriate to list some things we are thankful for:

  
We're thankful we live in the strongest real estate market in the country. Other areas are years away from a housing recovery, but our local market is very strong. In addition, the sharp fluctuations in market activity are leveling off. Our market is steady and stable.

 

We're thankful the government shutdown didn't greatly affect our market. With a large concentration of government workers and associated businesses, the shut down could have been disastrous to local real estate. It appears the shut down extended the Fall market, a good thing really. Houses are selling briskly, well past the time things normally "slow down". We're expecting high levels of activity right into the New Year.

 

We're thankful interest rates are still very low, and it appears they will stay there. The new appointee  for the Fed has said she wants to keep them there. Low rates mean more people can achieve their dream of home ownership, always a good thing.

 

Most of all, we are thankful for you, our clients. Without your trust, our business would be nonexistent. Your commitment to us, and the referrals you send us, are the reasons we are able to stay involved in this "cray business".  Without you, we are nothing. THANK YOU!

Our Client of the Month isn't a client at all, but rather we want to introduce our newest team member Marc Hershkowitz! Marc comes to us with a very strong real estate resume that includes working with some of the best agents in our area. He's a talented agent in his own right but will also be working as our office manager and general assistant, particularly with processing and contract-to-close. In the two months that he's been with the team he has already made himself an invaluable asset and I know our clients have all enjoyed working with him as much as we do. 
 
When he isn't here in the office, Marc enjoys spending time with his son Ron and loves camping and listening to live music. Marc also has a passion for teaching and teaches fifth grade religious school and speaks Hebrew fluently.
  
  
September Settlements Remain Strong; Inventory Up in Montgomery County
Real Estate News
Inventory remained tight in the District for condos and single-family homes during the month of
September, but started to rise in Montgomery County. Both jurisdictions continued to see strong settlement activity.
  
Washington, DC The average number of days on market was down 37.5% compared to September 2012. The median price for condos was up 6.8%, and single-family homes saw an 15.4% increase. Available inventory declined slightly for condos in September with 4.9% fewer listings, but single-family listings saw no change. Condo contracts rose 8.9%, and condo settlement activity saw a 10.8% increase over 2012. Single-family contracts saw virtually no increase, but single-family settlements increased 12% over September 2012.
  
 Montgomery County The average number of days on market was down 36.2% from September 2012. Median condo prices saw a 5.8% increase, with the price of single-family homes increasing by 7.9%. The amount of available inventory increased for condos and single-family homes - 13.9% and 7.7% respectively - compared to September 2012. Condo contracts saw a 14.5% rise in September, but the number of new single-family contracts decreased by 3.5%. Settlements were again on the rise in September, with a 29.2% gain for condos, and a 13.6% increase for single-family homes.

The largest race in Montgomery County, Maryland and the signature charity event of the Bethesda-Chevy Chase Rotary and the YMCA Bethesda-Chevy Chase, the annual Turkey Chase will benefit charities supported by the Bethesda-Chevy Chase Rotary Club, YMCA Bethesda-Chevy Chase scholarships, financial assistance and YMCA Youth & Family Services.

 

The 2-mile walk/run and the USATF-certified 10 kilometer race are both open to the entire family.  Turkey Chase also holds the Tot Trot 50 meter race, which is designed for all ages, whether your little one is just beginning to walk or loves to run and play. Each participant will receive a shirt and a special prize and memories that will last a lifetime.
