What the New DOL Rules Mean to Investors
The Labor Department recently introduced new rules to protect American's retirement accounts.

Earlier this month the Department of Labor announced new rules which are designed to help protect the retirement savings of millions of Americans. The new rules require that financial professionals act as a fiduciary or in the best interest of the client when providing financial advice. Unfortunately there are many professionals in our industry who (up until now) were not subject to these standards (i.e., commission earning investment, annuity, & insurance salespeople).  By ruling their job was to solely provide "suitable" advice and products, all too often putting their own financial gain ahead of their clients.  This new rule, while still in its infancy will most assuredly change the landscape on how individuals receive financial advice.

As Certified Planner Professionals (CFP) we have always remained committed to a fiduciary standard and a code of ethics.

As college costs grow and student debt increases it is important to ask what kind of return on my investment am I going to get? Determining the overall cost of college, can be difficult as the "sticker price" is not often what anyone actually pays.  Did you know there are "net price calculators" which schools are required to offer to students to let them know the true cost of attending. While certain majors offer more defined career paths and incomes, it is important to look at the school's overall rate of return when factoring what school you'll attend.
