Wills & Beneficiary Designations
Naming the wrong people or failing to update documents can create a mess for your heirs!

Think your Will will take care of everything when you pass away? Well, that is not always the case. In many instances your Will only takes care of assets that do not already have named beneficiaries such as your home, car, and jewelry. Retirement & investments accounts, life insurance policies, even US savings bonds have beneficiary designations so you'll want pay attention. These designees will have the legal claim to them upon your death no matter what your Will says. If you have a life changing event, such as a marriage, divorce or add a child to the family you will want to update the beneficiaries on your accounts. Make sure your last wishes aren't superseded by paperwork you neglected to update.
North Shore vs. South Shore

Route 1 or Route 3? Roast beef sandwiches vs. Bar pizza? Polo clubs or Yacht club?

If you've lived in Massachusetts you've likely chosen your favorite shore a long time ago. Our state is relatively small yet the differences between our shores are quite prominent and the subject of great debate. Perhaps most interesting in this battle of shore lines is our lack of knowledge of our neighbors to the North or South!

Opening an IRA with Babysitting Money
Would your kid be willing to take their hard earned money and start a retirement account?

While it might be a tough sell, the earlier your kids learn and start to save, the more likely they will be to keep saving for their lifetimes. Teach your kids to save early and they'll see how even a small amount saved in an IRA, can grow significantly over the long haul. You could also sweeten the idea by offering to "match" their contributions. Getting your kids to contribute their own money and having them watch it grow over time is an easy way to instill lifelong values and an understanding of the importance of saving for the future.
