When you were in middle school, what did you dream you'd be doing when you grew up? Area students got a chance to get out of the classroom and into the workplace to explore what it's like to work for MAHEC, Hotel Indigo, Moog Music, Silver-Line and several other local businesses during the annual Students @ Work Week. Julie Smith and other members of the Peaks Society are collecting sporting goods at McCormick Field on April 20 to be used to keep kids active in local summer camps. As a REALTOR, she has seen how clearing out the old allows forward movement. As an active United Way volunteer, she also knows the value of giving back. READ MORE>

We've been doing work at Enka Middle School through our Middle School Success initiative for years, so it was great to see the school used as the location of a community meeting last week. Over 250 neighbors let an impressive panel of public officials know about issues that are important to the Enka-Candler community (from trash and sidewalks to noise and graffiti).
