Nearly 1.26 million public school students are currently homeless, an all-time high. Wendy Cuellar is a school counselor at Enka Middle School and offers a first-hand look at the daily lives of homeless students. Nonprofits are helping out, but these kids face barriers. READ MORE>

Adolescents fall off the radar when it comes to charities that distribute holiday gifts, but you can help out this year. It's amazing what 84 employees from NTCA-The Rural Broadband Association were able to accomplish. The organization used an all-day volunteer project to promote team-building and further build a connection with the community. Students got a cleaner, greener, updated campus in return. VIEW GALLERY>

Winter officially starts December 21, but we've already enjoyed our first snow. Speculators are expecting a chilly winter and NC 2-1-1 has resources for winter clothing, utility assistance, and food pantries, as well as ways to volunteer this season. READ MORE>
