CA Rep Judy Chu Attacks Sex-Selective Abortion Bills
|
Judy Chu, a Democrat from California's 27th Congressional District spoke out against state bans on sex-selective abortion earlier this week. She claimed: "A woman's constitutional rights should not depend on her zip code."
Chu was the House lead sponsor of the Women's Health Protection Act (HR 3471), the deceptively named bill so far-reaching it would topple pro-life laws passed in virtually every state in the country. National Right to Life President, Carol Tobias, recently testified against this bill in the Senate
Legislation banning sex-selective abortion at the state level made it the second most-proposed abortion ban in 2013, with 21 states proposing the ban on sex-selecitve abortion, and eight states actually enacting it. Assemblymember Shannon Grove proposed a similar bill, AB 2336, in California this May. AB 2336, however, was ultimately shot down.
