Transform the Conversation: Explore. Expand. Create.

The Statewide Conference,  Transform the Conversation: Explore. Expand. Create. will be held on November 5th and 6th at the Kalahari Resort in the Wisconsin Dells.

End Domestic Abuse Wisconsin, the Wisconsin Coalition Against Sexual Assault, and American Indians Against Abuse are thrilled to present Nanci as the opening keynote speaker. Luna Jiménez's presentation, entitled "Transforming the Conversation, Transform Our Community, Transform Ourselves," will help us in understanding the root causes of male domination that perpetuate emotional, physical, sexual and economic violence in an environment of fear.  It will offer a transformation of our language from using words such as "victims," "survivors," and "advocacy" to a narrative of empowerment, dignity, ally-partnerships, and human liberation. Nanci's goal is to inspire us to transform ourselves and our movement, to end domination.

National Laboratory Continues to

Strengthen Focus on Diversity & Inclusion

Nanci and Associate, Kathleen Rice, continue working with a national laboratory to strengthen their Diversity & Inclusion initiatives. In early February, they facilitated a Division-wide D&I action plan that all members of the workforce were invited to be a part of. Almost 10% of the workforce showed up to be part of this historic planning process! Task Forces now meet regularly to determine necessary action to achieve group-identified milestones.

In an effort to increase awareness of the importance of D&I, the Division sent their fifth group of employees to participate in a three-day Transformational Communication off-site training. While strengthening their relationship with one another, they
learned of new
theory and tools to help in healing from oppressions.

In May, Nanci and Kathleen facilitated an experiential training and dialogue, Women with Women, for 40 women at the lab. The group explored personal challenges, as well as barriers in being true allies, advocates, mentors and champions for each other.

Nanci Presents at IAF Jamaica

Nanci traveled to Jamaica for the first IAF Jamaica Conference in Kingston, Jamaica. She presented a short workshop session, What's Power Got to Do with It? Understanding the Impact of Dominance in Group Facilitation.

The interactive session introduced a framework for understanding the dynamics
of institutional and interpersonal dominance and its internalized affects and impacts. The group learned tools to interrupt dominance and identified the ways in which
they could apply them as facilitators.

Latino Leaders Reconvene and Graduate
In April, LJS had
their final reconvening
with Unid@s for Oregon, a Latin@ leadership
program. Nanci, Stephanie González and Jennifer Kruszewski led the group through the Action Planning Process. Each individual shared their vision for Latin@s in the state of Oregon. Later on in the process, the group reached consensus on how they would strengthen the community and support it in its healing from oppression.

If you would like to know more about the amazing leaders that comprised the cohort, please check out The Oregon Latin@ List. You will see why it was such an honor to work with them and Carmen Rubio, Nancy Ramirez Arriaga and Edgar Ortega of Latino Network.

We were graciously welcomed and hosted by CAPACES Leadership Institute and Silverton Health.

The Direct Report group continues working with Nanci and Kathleen on their strategic planning process. In the future, other LJS associates and the whole department of RL will take part in the completion of the strategic plan.
