Connecting Latino Leaders for Change

In partnership with the Coalition of Communities of Color, Nanci consulted with the Latino community to create a curriculum for a multigenerational Latino leadership pilot program, Unidos for Oregon.  Since the fall of 2011, the Cohort has had one kick off meeting and two reconvenings.  Associates Lillian Roybal Rose and Stephanie Gonzalez are working alongside Nanci on the Undios project.  The first class of cohort members will be graduating in April 2013.  This program was made possible by a grant from the Meyer Memorial Trust

Facilitating Across Cultures and Across Borders

In March, Nanci flew downunder for the 2012 IAF Oceania  annual conference in Melbourne. Nanci was honored to co-present a two part session with Christopher Whitnall of Talkforce and with Barbara MacKay of North Star Facilitators.

A couple months later, Nanci traveled to Halifax for the  IAF North America annual conference.  There Nanci presented a concurrent session, as well as a fast talk which can be seen on YouTube.  In addition, Barbara MacKay joined her for the two day pre-conference session.

Nanci is thrilled to have been accepted for the IAF NA conference for her sixth year in a row.  See Save the Date for information on this year's IAF NA conference in Orlando, FL in June.

Healing the Effects of Domestic Violence

At the beginning of August, Nanci flew to Wisconsin to present at the Wisconsin Coalition Against Domestic Violence (WCADV) Leadership Academy and Leadership Institute for People of Color Working to End Domestic Violence.  WCADV is a private, non-profit promoting social change to transform societal attitudes, practices and policies to prevent and eliminate domestic abuse.

Bringing University Staff and Students Together

At the end of summer, Nanci and Lillian Roybal Rose visited the campus of the University of California Santa Barbara.  In August they presented to a small group of Residential & Community Living staff members.  In September they returned to present the workshop to a large group of Residential & Community Living staff and student leaders.

Transformational Change for the People

Back in October, Nanci and newest LJS Associate, Kathleen Rice, and Stephanie Gonzalez presented LJS' second public workshop in Portland, Transformational Communication: Tools for Cross-Cultural Understanding and Alliance Building.  When asked what was most valuable about the workshop one participant said, "Learning about the framework of oppression and having a model and language to articulate it.  I have tools to transform myself and impact institutions."

National Lab Deepens Diversity & Inclusion Commitments

2012 completed LJS's fourth year working extensively with one of our national laboratories on their D&I efforts.  Nanci and the LJS team have been continuing to roll out a robust D&I initiative including assessments, training and facilitation, and designing a multitude of participatory processes for the lab.
