Canterbury Art Show:
Famous Artists series -
Denise Weiner

"I strongly believe that making art is one of the best ways to feed one's soul and make the world a better place." - Denise Weiner, Art Lessons from Grandma

Denise Weiner, author, artist and one of the founding organizers of the Canterbury Art Show, is passionate about art. After 32 years as a corporate executive, Denise was eager to find a way to combine her love of people, art, travel and writing. Using art as a way to see beauty in their surroundings, Denise helped Lorraine Niemela, her first art teacher, organize trips to France which were designed to immerse their fellow travelers in a holistic art experience - from painting on site to enjoying local cuisine, gardens, museums and historic sites. In 2002, Denise and Lorraine organized weekend art retreats at the Jersey shore to provide this experience to artists who could not travel as far as France. When Denise became a grandmother, she shared her passion about art with her granddaughters. They spent many joyful hours together in creative activities and talking about life. Denise captured all of these wonderful experiences into her first book, Art Lessons from Grandma. Make a point to meet Denise and see her whimsical "Alice in Wonderland" watercolor paintings, as well as paintings by her granddaughters, Maya and Mikayla Houston at the Canterbury Art Show over the Labor Day weekend.
